I think they are wrong - you can sell fans on a rebuild if you can show that you have a plan.

Yeah, but I think their fans have fallen for that too many times now.

Do they though? The people that need to tell Katz that the 80s action figures are the problem are the 80s action figures themselves. Lowe, MacTavish and even Nicholson aren't going put themselves out of jobs by being honest to Katz - even if they were capable of being honest with themselves.

I thought about that after I wrote it. You're right. Who holds a top position that isn't in his collection? Nicholson I suppose. But we've seen what good he is.

I really really hope Darryl declines. I can't make myself dislike this guy...

Ugh. Darryl is the exact type of strong personality that might be able to help them pull off a culture change. An "Oil Change" if you will.
I feel ill saying that.

Jay Feaster would never stoop to the level of working for that clown-school of an organization. He is better than that.

No he is not. When he took over in Calgary that was a bad situation as well. Feaster would be lucky to get another GM job in this league

I think the Oilers are going to end up with whoever literally cannot find a job anyone else. Anyone with any legitimate credentials or future in the hockey world is going to go into that job asking for assurances that they can make the right decisions without interference from higher ups who clearly cannot run an NHL hockey team. This is a big consideration alongside cleaning up the cap situation, dealing with an impatient fanbase, etc.
Of course, management and ownership probably won't want to get out of the way so no one with any amount of promise or backbone is going to want the job without a ridiculous contract because it very well may be their last in the NHL. This could be beautiful to watch.

Laughable. There is nothing more toxic than the Edmonton Oilers. They are the most dysfunctional professional sports franchise of the last decade or more, and it isn't even close.

Feaster had a good plan to improve the Flames long-term and did a good job of identifying the players to keep. His execution was horrible but the plan was good. We don't want the Oilers to have a plan.

Take this for what its worth, but in conversation some time ago with some one from Sutter's home town, he mentioned that Sutter disliked being a GM as apposed to a coach.

Please not Darryl - can't bring myself to hate him and he'd probably tell the OBC where to stick it and help right the ship!

Did I say they were the same situation? Not at all I said the Calgary situation was not great for a GM to take on. Tons of NMC, no prospects, aging roster, win now mandate.
Oilers situation is rotten but let’s not pretend Jay Feaster would be walking away from that opportunity.
Edmonton is by far a bigger tire fire than the Flames were but don’t tell me the Flames were not a laughing stock before or during Feasters time with the team.
