Wow first post since Nov 2017. Now why on earth would you have taken such an extended break from the site?
One can only assume that you've been very busy.

Thanks for that, oiler fan. Because you are sooooo much better. I prefer to let him have at least one practice before I hate on him for losing here with Mr Non-generational Mcdufus as his captain.

McBackup named Canada's player of the game. That says it all.

Seriously does that post not sum up Oiler fans perfectly?
"HA HA your loser coach can't coach a team largely made up the losers from the team I follow!"
Just amazing in so many ways.

Good timing getting rid of him though. I don't think many around here are in the mood to listen to him tell us all summer how great the oilers are going to be and how bad Peters and the Flames will be from a goof who went MIA for another entire season of oiler basement dwelling. I know I'm not.

Good riddance.

No need for any deep analysis, its very much the same as last year, Canada needs at least an NHL "starter" or comparable caliber goalie to win the tournament. Last year the Swedes had Lundquist, why did Matt Murray not play? In addition if there is any criticism it is that our guys simply do not show up. Nashville had around 8 players drop in for this, kudos to Turris, where is PK Subban?

Man has Canadian goaltending ever gone into the toilet lately.

I was ready to flip out about Team Canada's selection of goalies for this tourney but then had a look at the NHL goalie statistics this year and saw McElhinney and Kuemper were 1st and 2nd in save percentage among all goalies and 2nd/3rd in GAA among all goalies.

They only played 37 games combined, but those are still pretty good numbers, and looking at the rest of the leader board the pickings were really slim. Hutton was tight up there in both categories as well, and he played 32 games. I wonder if they even asked him? Probably not, as I doubt he would have declined.

Yikes.

Just woke up and saw the score. So have the Flames fired Peters yet?

This tournament is not a reason to doubt Peters ability, short tournament with winner takes all semi's and finals. Carolina had 328 games under Peters, it is those results that should either give Flames fans brimming confidence or pause.

Awesome, I'd be pretty happy being the 4th best team in the NHL.

Personally I think he was the site's top tier troll since BigTuna was banned.

He was liked the pied piper. Make a post and have a congo line of posters following him into the abyss. People just couldn't resist.

I’m really not trying to bash him, but what is the reason McDavid continues to wear a ‘C’ for teams he plays on? He’s a good player, I get that. And I’m not privy to what he says to his team in the dressing room, but the things he says on camera and his body language don’t exactly inspire confidence.

He’s a good player. That doesn’t mean he’s a good leader. He sure doesn’t look like it to me.

Well the Oilers clearly did it because they wanted to get another record for the youngest ever captain in league history. I'm sure a banner is forthcoming.

I always thought it was a bit of a slap in the face to veteran players to just hand the C over to a 20 year old kid. Captaincy isn't a badge of talent. It's a badge of leadership cultivated over years of experience. Giving it to a young player that has no real professional experience is kind of flying right over the entire concept of what a captain should be.

I agree. And the thing is, maybe he would be better off just playing his game instead of being the focal point of attention all the time.

I've seen no evidence of his vaunted leadership abilities. He seems to be awarded the 'C' based on his hype alone.

If there is anything to be concerned about regarding this tournament, it would be that at no point did McDavid look head and shoulders better than anyone.

Dominant players take this tournament by the scruff of the neck and we never saw that from McDavid.

I have never thought that McDavid had any supposed leadership abilities. Forget about what you hear from Edmonton.

But no reason he should not have been more dominant in the last 2 games. The guy has skill no doubt. If left to just play his game, he would probably be better served.
