I’m just glad that it’s way way easier to get fried chicken that isn’t KFC.

Don't bother trying it, it sucks.
Speaking of which, KFC currently has their Famous Chicken Sandwich on for $4.95...

My issue with Korean fried chicken is I find many of the places do not marinate it and it the meat is incredibly dry even though they have hit the apex on how to batter, fry, and flavor the outside.

Some can be pretty bland. WOW is particularly bad in that regard.

Wow is fine. The CH location is not well run however.

Interesting. That’s the one I’ve tried. Man, none of these places seem to be consistent across location.

I'd lump a lot of the asian fried chicken joints in this bland basket. Wow, Olive, and even Jolibee.

A-1 cook and fry - zero seasoning. Yes, some great sauces can be had but I don't like to sauce as it soggifies the chicken, especially on takeout orders.

More importantly is the cost side of things now these days.

For all these reasons - I still am a COTW fan.

I didn't have KFC for years and went a while ago and it was down right vile. The pieces were small and it was so greasy, it was like taking a sip of deep fryer oil with every bite.

Probably the most unappetizing part though, was that all the bones were broken as if when the chickens were harvested, the people doing it were doing it a lot less humanely and more aggressively than they needed to.

I know harvesting meat isn't pleasant, but I prefer to push that thought into the vault when I am eating it. It was impossible to do in that circumstance.

Jollibee has to be the singularly worst fried chicken in the world. It’s like what you’d expect from a hospital.

Olive was good, one problem was the weird butchering of the chicken they’d do, especially noticeable on the drumsticks where there would be bones sticking out.

I wish I had a recent good experience with COTW, but last tries have always been overcooked and tasting of really old fryer oil.

I just had some yesterday - I wouldn't go that far. My all dark meat combo had a great cook through it, wasn't dry, and had a good, if bland fry crust on it. Similar to the 5 times I've been there in the last year. If anything was really weak it was the "spicy" seasoning they dumped on with a shaker - pretty patchy and only on the top. Fries were coated McCains - reasonably crispy but nothing to write home about. The gravy needed more salt too - seemed like packet gravy so it was probably too diluted.

I suspect there's a degree of "time and place" to all fast food fried chicken places - different staff, different locations, different managers all add up to a product that's....variable.

I realised I still go to COTW but I stopped ordering chicken, I just go there for their fritters and freshly cut fries.

the wife and i were in TO last novevmber, and we were going to try chick-fil-a, but it was a long lineup, and you could only get ti to go and we had walked to the ROM and were in the process of walking back to our hotel and it was windy out with not many places to go to be able to eat

Since this thread has devolved into a fried chicken in general discussion. K-Town is my go to place now. Their $12 lunch box is awesome too.

Chick-Fil-A exists because:

- it's better than McD's.
- it's fast.
- it's cheap.

Ask for their fries slightly more cooked. They were soggy the last few times I got them at southland, then I asked for a bit more cooked and they were heavenly.
