Oh okay, I guess that's where my disconnect was then. To me the word f***** was more in line with what you're describing pre-2005ish. I don't personally know too many people that still see that word as anything but a horribly inappropriate slur along the same line as any number of racial slurs in 2016.
Even comedians like Bill Burr and Louis CK that were famous for using it (Louis CK even has a famous bit on how the F word doesn't mean he's calling you gay it means you're being a f******) have come out and basically said "uhh yeah, I get it, not acceptable any more", and have dropped it from their acts.
Sure, we all know it is in appropriate and comedians have dropped from acts etc doesn't mean the connection that Louis had goes away over night. People know not to use it when they are thinking clearly and are completely aware of what they are doing.

Congratulations, you're a straight white man. You hit the jackpot. The least you could do is listen to marginal and oppressed groups when they say you are doing something (deliberately or inadvertently) that is rooted in centuries of unimaginable violence.
I'm so sick of this sentiment "you hit the jackpot". I'm not going to apologize for being straight and white. I treat all people with respect, I don't owe anyone anything beyond that because of violence of past centuries. You're now profiling me due to my color, sexual orientation and gender, the exact thing that marginalized groups are trying to prevent. Incredible.
Sure. Learn, educate and move forwards. Labeling people homophobes is also a problem when it may be lack of education or forsight that could be the problem. Now if Shaw refused to talk to this Hines fellow and shunned him while talking to other media folk I think we would have something.
I am going off of his reaction after seeing himself say it. In the heat of the moment his mind didn't make the connection. Only afterwards did he truly realize what he said. That's what I'm referring to not just the use of the word.
Hard to think, type on a phone while working in a cold server room.

Welcome to the next big political conflict, bud.

Late to the party here, but while watching the game last night I was hoping something would come of this. It was pretty obvious the slurs he was spouting.
For a guy that had such a positive impact on that game, he really tanked it hard near the end. What an asshat. If I was Q I wouldn't play him again unless they go through to the next round.
1 game is a joke. Had a kid in my son's Midget league this year suspended indefinately (pending a hearing with Hockey Calgary) for a slur. That's the right call. There's no place in the game for this and it set's a terrible example for our kids (and others for that matter).
Edit to add the suspension should be more than one game.
Facetiousness aside, this is far from being enough.
Why? Seems right on the money, to me. I don't know what the sensitivity training thing is about, but a game in the press box certainly sends a strong message.

He very obviously called multiple people fa*s throughout the entire sequence. It was pretty embarrassing.
And yeah, like it or not, c***sucker is a homophobic slur, obviously.
I get that what he said was derogatory. Disagree with c*** sucker though. That's a slippery slope that would take way too many word combinations with it haha.
