Congratulations ricardodw, you're the new moon! No longer will we say a thread has been mooned, a thread has now been ricardodwded! Or would that be ricardodw-rolled?

I doubt people want him back but he may have played himself into a 2 year deal u see his previous $4M cap hit. At that price t is something to consider?

Not sure Ricardo is wrong about Hudler here (think the leap to teams not trusting Flames rentals is a bit of a jump though).

The guy ended up with 12 points in 25 games and wasn't trusted by the coach when the going got tough in the playoffs.

Have to think they aren't thrilled about spending a 2nd and 4th for a guy that was supposed to help out the young players - and then was demoted to the 4th line.

Will be interesting on the Free Agent market - there isn't a lot of cap space overall in the league this year and Hudler will be on the downside.

He may have to settle for a shorter term contract with a lower cap hit for sure.

I think Hudler was a declining asset before the trade deadline, and is a declining asset afterwards. Disappointed in what he brought to Florida, but not overly surprised. It matters not what he gets in free agency (so long as the Flames aren't making the offer).

yeah it was an odd post but I wonder if Hudler is about to get a pretty cold shower myself.

He's not big. He's not fast. He's not young. And he's less productive.

I think his best use is a top six, but he may not be good enough. A smart team will make him a third liner which he's not suited, with the thought that he can step up with injuries.

Really if he has a rough go for a week, maybe Calgary can bring him back for $1.5 on a 1 year deal and plug that top line spot.

I'd want to know there are no dressing room issues though.

Tallon gambled that Hudler would find his form again after playing poorly in Calgary this year. Sometimes it works out, usually it doesn't.

Hudler has been an anomaly all season so I dont really know what to think, but its conceivable that he may find himself the recipient of the ol' Glencross Heave-Ho treatment this summer.

Hudler may not get decent offers in the NHL, but he could still get a decent pay day in the KHL I bet.

The guy was invisible in the playoffs
Feel bad for him it's going to be tough to find work now...

Very true, and I'd bet that if he'd been willing Glencross could have as well, but thats not really the point. I guess what I see is 2, potentially 3 depending on Russell, players that felt they were undervalued and underpaid in Calgary only to find that they probably should have taken Treliving's last offer.

And in our case we are looking at assets acquired and bullets dodged.

I figure he lands in New Jersey, where all the veteran castaways end up.

so you are comfortably on the record that:

1) Florida was happy with Hudler and will likely re-sign him

2) Hudler will get no less than 4M / yr on his next contract

Not going to kick the guy when he's down. Regardless of this season I feel that his signing was one of the better moves of the Feaster regime as he did a fine job mentoring the younger forwards for the post-Iginla transition. Like most trade deadline acquisitions he just didn't have enough time to properly gel with his new team/teammates and it's not like any of the other Panthers forwards stepped up as Barkov, Jagr, and Huberdeau underwhelmed. Glad that the Flames got a 2nd round pick for him and I hope he finds work with another team this summer.

Funny thing, are those the only two points you now stand by?

And the game has changed so much in the last two years. His skill and IQ kept him relevant in a game moving so much towards speed that it's leaving many players behind.

Going to be a tough UFA group for him as well.

For guys in the similar age range that need contracts:

Hudler
Staal
Vrbata
Ruutu
Purcell
Parenteau
Versteeg
Stempniak

Then you have a group of guys that had better years, are younger, or are better all-round players:

Okposo
Eriksson
Lucic
Nielsen
Boedker
Ladd
Backes
Brouwer
Perron
McGinn

With a flat cap, and many teams already struggling with some bad contracts it may be difficult for him to get a deal. Honestly a 1 year deal may be smart for him - especially with an expansion draft next year and some teams potentially needing to fill out a roster after that.

Very true, but its also a good sign of the current regime. Treliving will squeeze out every last drop you've got left to give, get something for you and then move along.
