They've thrown a tonne of money into coaching education.
Quote:
Part of the real success here is they have very educated coaches starting at five or six years of age.
Currently this nation of 335,000 has around 600 qualified coaches, 400 with Uefa B licences, or one per 825 people. To put this into context, in England this number falls to one per 11,000.
|
Jason de Vos mentioned on the pregame that for comparison, Canada has one qualified coach per 58000 people.

Portugal is the crappiest. Here is a team that has shared a group with America twice and both times the Americans advanced.

Don't know what's sweeter. Iceland's result, or Ronaldo's whining.

Euro 2016 Thread
I'd probably like Portugal. Then I see Ronaldo. Then he says something and if they were playing a Tottenham XI I'd put on a Spurs jersey.

I hope my Canadian friends make Team Iceland their team, us even being here is crazy, let alone making it past the qualifier round.
Go Iceland!

Easy for myself. I'm 1/4 Icelandic.

Yeah, no team has ever had any success playing against Portugal in a Euro using that strategy.

I guess the Russian players don't need the fans to send them home early. Sweet goal for Slovakia

Go on Iceland, make us love you more
Quote:
“Obviously we’re not going to create as much chances as a fantastic team like Portugal but his comments are the reason why Messi is always going to be one step ahead of him. You wouldn’t expect Messi to say that. It shows we got under his skin. It was lovely to hear that.”
Ronaldo ended the game embroiled in an argument with the referee and, despite his reluctance to shake hands with Iceland’s players, did so with the captain Aron Gunnarsson.
Arnason added: “It makes it even sweeter when he’s a sore loser like that. He can say whatever he wants. He didn’t really get a chance. He got one and he couldn’t put it away. What can I say? Sore loser. Tough ####. What does he expect – for us to play like Barcelona against him? He fannies about and dives around.”

They've got very clear video of a Russian dude setting off a flare in the stands after their goal. Not sure if that counts as the final straw or marked improvement.

The final straw will be a Russian loss to Wales in the next game.

Yeah, I love the Group stages, just nothing but games all day every day! Its like round 1 of the playoffs.
That being said, screw England vs. Wales at 7am tomorrow. Boo-urns to that.

They had to put Germany in primetime
Stancu now top scorer with 2 goals, the only 2 penalties of the tournament so far.

The Stank man!
Thanks for small favours! I'll actually be watching the German game live. I havent decided if I'm going to get out of bed for England vs. Wales.
