I've been a little confused about Svechnikov too. I've only seen him listed as a LW and I pretty much stopped looking into him because of his position. It makes a lot more sense if he can play RW though.
There are so many players that I'm liking in this draft. It's too bad I'm going to have to hate a few of them because they're going to the oilers.
If you youtube Svechnikov you'll find interviews with him where he says he plays RW, C and LW. Watching his highlights you'll see he mostly plays RW and there was a write up somewhere that said he converted to C near the end of their season and into the playoffs.
Treliving doesn't put much stock in the combine and talked about how some guys will get blown away by a guy's bench press, interview etc. and forget how he played.
He didn't want to talk about the Gio contract. He did admit that "father time" catches up to everyone and is a factor when signing older players. Short term it's ok to have an expensive player in the bottom half of your lineup, but long-term it's a detriment.

Won't talk about Gio's negotiation but did say you'll hear something after UFA day. Says the long term aspect of Gio's deal is something they're going to have to be very careful about.
Feels the draft is kind of wide open, might see a player you really love fall down to you because every teams list is different. 4 groupings of player in the top 15. I feel this is the case most of the time honestly, seemed like a canned answer.
Roy didn't do enough to get an offer and they want that extra contract spot for other things.
Seems to think they'll be very active in the trade market and UFA area. At least that's what I took from it.
RFA's, same as Gio, won't make any comments.
Hudler and Jones after this next season: Went out of his way to put Russell in the group too. Said they're already keeping tabs with their agents. Won't commit, says the goal is to always make the team better. Sounds non-committed to thinking too much about them until it's closer to their time.
EDIT: Oh and he says they're going to bring some prospects into CGY to carry on the interview process after the combine. Why do I think the league implemented a new rule two years ago saying teams could not do this without incurring fines?

I feel there are 11 guys who are very likely gone before #15
McDavid, Eichel
Strome, Marner, Hanafin, Crouse, Provorov, Barzal, Rantanen, Werenski, Meier
As much as we'd like some of these guys, I can't see us getting any with out trading up.
For me I have now narrowed it down to 13 possible choices:
LW- Svehcnikov
C - Zacha, Connor, White, Eriksson Ek
RW - Konecny, Merkley, Sprong, Boeser
LD - Zboril, Chabot, Kylington
RD - J.Roy
I mentioned I'd prefer Kylington previously, and I still like him, but would add Zacha, Svechnikov, and J.Roy to my preferred list.
Adding those 4 to my top 11 and I'd be very happy with Flames picking one of these 15 players.

McKeens mock has the Flames taking Zboril - who is the guy I predicted they take.
Could be, but I cant help but think that Zboril will be a fairly un-sexy pick that will leave most of the fan base pretty unsatisfied in the hype department. Obviously the team doesnt and shouldnt care about that, but if Zboril is the pick at #15 I cant help but think there will be a collective "meh" by much of the fanbase.

Could be right but I think he's exactly what this organization needs. Good skater, good defensive instincts, and the possibility of some untapped offensive potential. And he's got jam. McKeens projects him as a #2 or #3 dman.
I dunno - the more I learn about this guy the more I think he could be the one the Flames take.

If anyone has time to watch these videos, they are pretty darn good. You can get a real feel for some of the players we've never seen play before.
Anyways, just wanted to chime in on the Zboril discussion. After watching these videos, I came away super impressed. He's able to close gaps really well, plays with a physical edge, and has some pretty good hands while making rushes. I would be pretty stoked if we took Zboril.
Also as shown in the Timo Meier video, it seems he matches up against the opposing team's top players. Thought he played against Ehlers and Meier really well.

Button also listed Hjalmarsson as a comparison to Zboril. That is exactly what the Flames need.
From McKenzie's rankings it looks like he could be the next best defenseman after the big 3 (Hanifin, Provorov, and Werenski), with another gap after Zboril.
