I'm fine with the white background but can we at least update the Alberta font from the '70s?

Good, I hated all the options, simple red and white is perfect.

Haha awesome. Although I still don't understand why they don't roll out a flames/stamps/esks/oilers plate option like most other provinces.

I hope this was still on open contract, and we won't hear a month from now we lost $100K cancelling a contract with 3M.
Good political move, but really any move that is the exact opposite of what Redford would do is a good move. I still give him kudos, as it would have been easy just to not address the mess, move on, and blame Redford in times gone by if anyone asks.

But that's the best part! I've always loved that Alberta logo....the new one with the little square is nice and forgettable.
I approve of this decision...I think our license plates are great as is, and change for the sake of change (especially if it's a step back) is not needed.

During the press conference he was asked about specialty plates (team plates) and the reply was basically that those were not a priority issue or concern for the people of Alberta and as such introducing those types of plates will not be considered.

This. Don't mind keeping everything else the same, but that at least could be changed.

The Calgary Flames jersey should learn from the Alberta License Plate. Should never have changed since 1980.

Who cares what font they are. They're license plates...waste of time and money to worry about a new design.

Shrug. I always found the endeavour to be pointless. It had gotten to be such a debauchel, the best thing was to just shut it down. The designs were terrible for something that, at the end of the day, was so trivial.

Stuff like this just goes from new and cool, or even new and meh, to old and ugly, then to old and cool.
Once something is old and cool it stays that way forever. Just ride it out.

Anything that gets rid of that ghastly Veterans plate is a good decision in my books.

The veteran plate is here to stay. I saw someone driving around in one the other day, and it looks fine. You guys get so worked up over such trivial stuff.

I had a friend from DC visit a few weeks back, and out of nowhere say how much he loved the logo on our plates. There's something very endearing about the classic Canadian logos from the 60s/70s. They are actually really respected amongst the design community, and something I think that has become part of our identity as a country. I would hate to see the Alberta logo step aside for something of-the-moment....it kind of already is, but I'm glad it's sticking around on the plate.
Some other Canadiana classics:
CN Rail logo.
The CBC logo is one of the best of it's kind anywhere imo.
The (original) Parks Canada logo. The new update is nowhere as nice.
Government of Canada. Nice and subtle flag post.
City of Montreal
And of course, still the best jersey of all time imo.
Sorry for the logo hijack!

I also love the current CBC logo, but the one you linked does not really support the point you're trying to make. That's a 1992 update of the 1974 design. Here's how it originally looked -- not nearly as good, IMO:

Yep, you're right, I posted the update there. I think it's one of the few updates that is better than the original.
That old one makes a fantastic t-shirt btw.

I know, I have that exact shirt.
Although sadly it seems it's no longer available on the CBC store.
