Just weird. If there's a guy you're going to trust to bring the intensity, it's St. Louis.
Possible that Hamhuis's injury kept him on the bench (but dressed over Subban?)
Is St. Louis hurt?

Yeah, I thought Canada looked a little nervous in the first 3 or 4 mins, but by the 15 mark of the 1st, it really felt like they couldn't lose.

Great play by Bouwmeester...makes you think his strengths weren't utilized here

“@DownGoesBrown: Meanwhile, Subban sadly welcomes Patrick Kane and Phil Kessel to the “P.K.’s completely shut down by Team Canada” club.”

That isn't spoken of until after Sunday.

Tough to criticize after a win, but having Hamhuis dressed and Subban sitting makes no sense. If you're down, which guy is a better possibility of getting you a goal? PK is a beast on the powerplay.

Good for Price. I was nervous about him in big games, be he continues to show improvement.

I think Canada's game plan was not to be down at any point in the game. It certainly looked that way to judge from how the game played out, and it seems to be a winning strategy. Having Hamhuis available in a game like this to play in the vent that a defenseman goes down is a much better idea than having to slot Subban in in relief.

Think it was more that the team was rolling.
The coaches already have a hard enough time giving ice time to this team in a balanced way, trying to roll in an extra forward and an extra d-man when the game means so much is just messing with the flow and rotation.
In tight games coaches tend to shorten their bench, not extend them.
As for Subban he was made irrelevant when Doughty and Weber got off to such strong offensive starts. Having our d-line already producing most of our offence made Subban unnecessary.

More than that, if a guy is less than 100% (ie. Hamhuis) he probably shouldn't be dressed if you have Subban ready to go. Might be a chemistry issue -- Subban doesn't get along with everyone, as we all know.
St. Louis is a mystery though. Jamie Benn plays 16 min, and St. Louis zero. Nothign against Benn, who had a great game; but can't imagine what it would be to bench a player like St. Louis for the whole game.

If so, it's a recent development. Didn't he have a bit of a rep for imploding when things didn't go his way?

He shouldn't have gone, Gio deserved that spot.

Thanks and dumb question: In the Olympics, you dress 20 skaters, not 18? Didn't know that.

And I think Jbo started getting used properly after Hartley came in, as his numbers and game was significantly better last spring..hence the package we got for him. (which I'm not sure he would've fetched prior to that season)
