Finally got the chance to watch the game on PVR. Wow what a comeback. Down 2 with 3 min left to play.
Then to win it in OT just an amazing comeback. This stands out as one of the all time moments in Canadian women's hockey history.
That lineswomen who was so improperly positioned and skated backwards glancing at the Canadian D on the blue line when Canada had the goalie pulled was absurd.
It was hockey justice that the American bounced the long shot off the empty net post.
As for the OT call on the American on the Wickenheiser breakaway was more a trip from the skates colliding then a cross check.
Way to go ladies epic comeback Gold medal win!!!

Because there was no clear obstruction prohibiting the Canadian player(sorry can't spell her name) from continuing on her breakaway. She was simply slower than the American player and was caught from behind. If you watch the replays, it seems like she simply fell over.

If you want honesty, lets ask why we pay as fans enough money to hockey players (195Million or so) that can barely get by Latvia? This best on best every four years is fairly telling.

Their skates collided. A trip is a trip if it's using your stick or your feet, it doesn't matter if one skater is faster than the other and it doesn't matter if it was accidental. The USA player needed to skate around Haley and at least get beside her before making contact. It was an easy call to make.

This, even if it was incidental it was still a penalty and a ref will call that everytime. The only way its not is if the puck is played first.

I didn't see and skates collide, I just saw Wickenhiser fall down, likely cause she was gassed and was trying to keep going. Terrible call in our favour, terrible officiating in the OT, but glad we took advantage, US shouldn't have let us be in that spot in the first place, no one to blame but themselves.

Watch it frame by frame.
As she falls, her arm and elbow strike Wickenheiser's back, then as she falls further, so does her helmet. Then Wickenheiser falls.
I know she's (the american player) already on record as saying it was a crap call because she didn't touch Wickenheiser. But she did.

I just watched the game replay. Great comeback by Canada and a sweet OT goal! They got really lucky in OT though, that slash was weak and the breakaway penalty looked bad but upon closer review maybe shouldn't have been called.
Maybe they should have two refs for the final, one Canadian one American instead of an inferior neutral ref? Oh well those are the breaks, it's great to see Canada win and the Americans lose.

There is one replay angle that clearly shows the two players' skates clip each other, and it's just enough to set them off stride. It was incidental contact for sure, but it was still a trip. The cross-check call still puzzles me, but it was a penalty. The most shocking thing about the play is that it wasn't called a penalty shot, but a power-play worked out just fine.
The slashing call was a cop out, even-up call...but to the referee's credit she had warned the US about chopping at the goaltender. She kept that in her back pocket until she needed it.
