The Japanese have been given an eighth consecutive home tie in Davis Cup

Eight in a row at home? How does that happen?

Luck. The Davis Cup balances home-court in ties between the same countries (i.e. if Canada and Japan meet again I think we'd be the home side), but if the countries have never met it's luck of the draw.

yup. Canada have named 4 players. Dancevic, Polansky, Pospisil and Nestor. Had to be done before Match 1.

Dancevic is Singles 1: He can only play singles in matches 2 and 4
Polansky is Singles 2: He can only play singles in matches 1 and 5.

Any of the 4 guys can play doubles and either Pospisil or Nestor can replace the players in singles.

So even though you see Raonic and Shamasdin (and anyone else) there, they cannot play. You can't suddenly declare that Raonic is ok and desperately throw him in on Sunday it's too late.

speaking of which, I believe Laurendeau made a mistake here or that he listened to Pospisil. If Pospisil can only play doubles and not singles (and probably can't even play doubles) then they should have selected Shamasdin to save the singles guys from having to play 3 times. Canada is essentially playing this tie with 3 men (one of whom can't play singles)

So really 2 and a half men!

Now that might still be enough to beat Japan cause they're crap.

Here we go.

Nishikori is in the doubles. Japan is in full panic mode.

Dancevic/Nestor vs Nishikori/Uchiyama

Pospisils back flaring up again. Should have never been nominated. Terrible captaincy.

Would it have matter? I'm guessing the guy who would have replaced Pospisils would not be any better than Dancevic in doubles or Polanksy in singles.

He would be way better in doubles

they could have Adil/Nestor in doubles so Dancevic isn't playing 3 days in a row.

Plus Adil Shamasdin is a doubles guy. They probably win yesterday.

Dancevic is on fumes right now.

You can't name a guy who can't play. They might as well name me!
