Feel like Ristolainen is a lock for the Sabers

Nikita Zadorov is also still on the Sabres roster after today's cuts. Grigorenko sent to Rochester -- if Reinhart gets sent back to junior at any point he'll be the first call up.

Quick question on Zadorov -- he played 7 games of his 9 game try out last year. Does he get another 9 this year or can he only play another 2 before the next game would count toward his contract?

And yes, Ristolainen was never in question this camp. Made the team, probably not going anywhere else.

Players can't be called up from the CHL unless it's an emergency thing (not sure when those are allowed to happen).

People can say what they want about the sabres but I think they're going to be a decent team that's fun to watch. THey have good young players and they've added a few decent vets. I think the sabres are at where the oilers thought they'd be in year 3-4 of their rebuild.

With the east sucking so much, I wouldn't be surprised to see at least a couple of the Sens, Sabres or Hurricanes doing ok.

The Sabres might start well with all their youth, but I think they're going to be terribad once the excitement wains.

Sharks have cut Goldobin ... funnily enough, they don't send him back to the OHL, but loan him to Finland instead. Maybe they think that he'll benefit more from playing against men, just like Hertl did.

Bret Hedican ‏@BretHedican
@SanJoseSharks Nikolay Goldobin has been sent to HIFK of the Finnish Elite League. He had gr8 camp & will be a bright star in #NHL some day!

Other than Sven, what is the status of 2011 picks and being sent back to the minors? Surely he can't be the only top pick mired in that situation.

#11 Duncan Siemens (COL)
hasn't cracked the NHL yet and has been pretty underwhelming in the AHL so far. Assigned to Lake Erie again

#16 Joel Armia (BUF)
came over last year and had 7 goals and 20 assists in 54 AHL games. Assigned to Rochester again

#18 Mark McNeill (CHI)
had 18 goals and 19 assists in 76 games in the AHL last season. Assigned to Rockford again

#19 Oskar Klefbom (EDM)
only 17 NHL games so far. Made the opening night roster though I believe

#21 Stefan Noesen (OTT)
missed most of last season due to injury, had only 2 AHL games. Assigned to Binghamton again

#22 Tyler Biggs (TOR)
massive disappointment, had only 2 goals and 9 points in the AHL last season. Assigned to the Marlies again

#23 Joe Morrow (BOS)
is already with his third NHL team (PIT, DAL, BOS). No NHL games yet, assigned to the AHL again

#24 Matt Puempel (OTT)
had 30 goals for Binghamton last season, but hasn't played in the NHL yet. Assigned to the AHL again

#25 Stuart Percy (TOR)
no NHL games yet, but has now made the Leafs roster out of camp

#26 Phillip Danault (CHI)
had only 6 goals (and 20 assists) with the Ice Hogs last season. Assigned to the AHL again

#27 Vladimir Namestnikov (TBL)
buried on the depth chart in Tampa. Very good in the AHL, but only 4 NHL games so far

#28 Zack Phillips (MIN)
had 33 points in the AHL last season, no NHL games yet. Assigned to Iowa again

And so on. The truth is that out of all the first rounders drafted behind Baertschi, only one played more NHL games than him: J.T. Miller, and he only has played 4 games more. No need to panic yet.

Yeah, but making the Oilers roster is like getting a participation award.

With the overreaction by some to his demotion you would have thought he was a top-5 pick that year.

At the draft, it was really down to Baertschi, Armia and McNeil for most people. And IMO, Baertschi looked like the best of the bunch then, and still does now.

Some people were real vocal in dissing McNeil. I guess they didn't like that he was another big western Canadian kid. He seems to be doing okay. Not that I think he was a better pick than Baertschi.

I didn't like McNeill and my understanding is that he's done nothing to prove me wrong.

Armia was my pick for homer reasons - assuming that Scheifele etc was taken by that time - but I acknowledged that he always had bust potential. Great size and skill but he wasn't engaged enough on the ice. I heard that he got to a slow start and got hurt at camp in his first season in NA but that he was also very strong in the playoffs. Considering his talent, there's no reason he shouldn't make the NHL. If he doesn't, it's between his ears, and that was always the one thing about him that I wasn't sure about.

I don't recall discussing Sven before the draft. Still seems like a good pick if you look at all the other picks.

The Sabres have sent Sam Reinhart back to the WHL before burning the first year of his ELC.
