I've been attempted to project chemistry into potential line combos, as opposed to just selecting BPA... here are how I've got my lines ... and I see them all as top lines, so I didn't necessarily think of them in terms of 1st, 2nd and 3rd... I'll build a checking line for the 4th line though.
Anyway, here's what I'm thinking...
Henrik Zetterberg - Pavel Datsyuk - Alexander Mogilny
solid speed and a legit threat off the rush. All 3 players are very gifted with the puck. They'd give D absolute nightmares. Plus, Zetterberg and Datsyuk have proven chemistry and are both Selke-nominee level defensively, so I'd use them to go up against opposing teams top lines.
Michel Goulet - Keith Primeau - Jaromir Jagr
Another solid defensive presence down the middle on this line, plus Primeau adds support in the corner and in front of the net for Jagr, who's is perhaps the best player of all time down low. Goulet adds support and speed on the rush, as Primeau is a little slower skater.
Tomas Holmstrom - Henrik Sedin - Jarome Iginla
I think Henrik Sedin would have amazing chemistry with Iginla in his prime... this trio would be lethal on the cycle as they would NOT give up the puck in the corner. Iginla is clearly the trigger man with Holmstrom sitting on the goalie, of course. The only challenge I see here is Sedin would be setting up a RW, as opposed to Daniel being a LW. I think that's an easy adjustment and this trio dominates.
With these 3 lines having solid offensive skills, likely chemistry, as well as defensive awareness... and having (IMO) the greatest goalie of all-time in net... my focus now shifts to build a D-core of defensive minded personnel, with decent outlet passing.. I don't need them to do much more than that
