Rob Kerr is no doubt a nice guy, and is certainly funny to listen to, but is terrible at PbP.

I can't be the only one that gets annoyed whenever he says Coal-Born

I tune into the game, hear a puck rattling around the boards, someone yelling, some other unidentified noises and then Kerr finally says something to let me know there is actually a game being played in the building. LOL! Its almost growing on me now...

I thought Kerr was pretty good tonight for a dull game until the 3rd.

It's to the point now where hating on Kerr for being bad at PbP is like hating on me if I came in last in the men's super G. It's not my fault. It's not his fault. I'm sure nobody tries harder than Rob, that's the kind of guy he is. But his skillset is not suited to this position. Change is needed.

isn't that how his name is pronounced?? colborne... i'd pronounce it coal-born too??
what annoyed me last night was the out-of-sync video/sound (with the sound being ahead of the video). i think it was in the second period when the flames passed it d-to-d, the puck was maybe half way across the ice but you could hear it hit the other d-man's stick. come on sportsnet!

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the way Kerr says "Re-Toe" Berra drives me crazy. It's like pronouncing the second T hard in Toronto.
Just say Berra for craps sake.

Is this where I complain about Kerr announcing goals/saves a second before they occur?

Maybe this guy can help:
BURGUNDY TO JOIN TSN'S RAUTER TO CALL CURLING FROM WINNIPEG
http://www.tsn.ca/curling/story/?id=437443
Live from Winnipeg, Burgundy will join TSN's fellow "legendary" curling broadcaster Vic Rauter to call live game action during the network's coverage of the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings opening draw.
"Marked by the gods of broadcasting and placed into this shimmering green sphere like a golden egg in hay, chosen like an unclean jackal by Noah himself, I accept your hallowed task and sing out with a battle cry worthy of your love and your wisdom," said Burgundy. "And that song is, 'Winnipeg, get ready to paint the town Burgundy!'"

something that happens way too much is getting into tangents while the puck is in play in the flames end. the opposing team will be cycling/forechecking, Kerr will try to be talking about random player x's best junior season as a product of the saskatoon blades and mid sentence - he scores? all monotone
take lessons from Peter Maher, in passing mention where he's from and go back to describing the play. I listen to the games so I can hear what's going on, not to have kerrs whl knowledge interrupted by the inconvient events that are happening in the game I'm presently watching on television

I really don't mind Rob Kerr. Sure he's awkward and weird, but he's our weirdly awkward PBP guy. Who doesn't remember his epic Overtime call-in shows in 2004?
Charlie Simmer on the other hand, good lord. He's been the SN colour-guy for what, 4 or 5 years now? I seriously believe he ran out of any sort of insightful or meaningful commentary mid-way through his 2nd season. He's been coasting on fumes for years and all joking aside, its really impacting my enjoyment of Flames games.
I sincerely hope Simmers contract is up soon and we can get some new blood on the air next year, especially if SN is now going to be broadcasting every single game or whatever.

I don't get the Rob Kerr hate in the GTs etc ... I really don't mind him. Yes he's a bit quirky, but I like his emotion and enthusiasm. Simmer is boring though.

He's not bad, just way too often I'm facepalming or shaking my head at the stuff he says. I'd give him like a 6/10, specially after listening to some other teams announcers, he's out classed.
I don't dislike him, I just think a change would be nice..

Because certain blunders propel him far past the stage of "quirky" and into the world of bizarre. For example "Icing gets called on the Blackhawks" last night.
Well I'm sure Panthers home jerseys resemble that of Chicago...but really now.

i'm going to assume that most people on cp are located in alberta and get sportsnetwest for the majority of their televised games. being that i'm in bc, i get whatever feed (home/away) centerice decides to provide.
i am sooooo thankful for the crew that the flames have. they do a fantastic job game in and game out. have you ever tried to endure a flames game listening to the sens broadcast (it's WOTHERSPOON, not witherspoon! ...not to mention monahan tying iggy's 20 goal rookie record - or whatever it was they were saying)... or how about earlier this week when the flames played the leafs - dear lord that was a painful broadcast to endure (and i'm not talking about the final score).... and need i even mention when the flames play the canucks. since we get stuck with the canucks feed i'll sync the tv broadcast up with the fan 960 live feed becuz i just can't handle the sportsnet pacific guys.
are there other broadcast crews out there that are better than what we get with the flames - sure, but after watching a lot of hockey over the years and seeing what other teams have for broadcast crews i can honestly say that i quite enjoy the crew that does the flames games.

Lol, my barber brought up how he listens to the games on mute just yesterday because of how terrible the pbp is.
I Can't believe in Canada there arn't any good pbp characters to do this job.

While he's still not amazing, I actually think Kerr has gotten better as the year has gone on. Yes, he's still a little (ok, a lot) strange, but at the beginning of the season listening to his broadcasts was downright painful. He actually calls the play now (and can almost keep up most of the time) instead of just talking about other stuff 80% of the time. At the start of the season it was like having 2 colour guys on the broadcast because Kerr would be launching off into diatribes about stats or whatever instead of talking about what was actually happening on the ice. He is much better now, and actually seems to be focusing on the game a lot more. Now if Sportsnet could just fix their audio sync issues so I don't hear the Flames score 2 seconds before I see it....
