In addition to everything else mentioned, the language is pretty intense for a 12 year old. Within the first few hours there are more than enough N and C bombs to go around. To each his own, but I wouldn't buy this game for my kid at all.
at the strip club they show animated tits. Hell it's no worse than the nat geo mags they probably have his school

I wouldn't recommend it to 12 year olds, that's for sure. Then again, I played "Golden Eye" on N64 all the time with my friends when we were 12 and it's safe to say that it didn't harm us.

There's a big difference between seeing incidental boobs and having a digital stripper do a lap dance filling the screen with all of the body parts from various angles while you run your hands all over her body while she makes "sexy" comments and you make sexist comments.

I really need to do more side missions and roaming around because I'm a lot further along in the main story then I thought I would be, and that's without any major long sessions.
And I'll echo whoever said pay attention to the storyline and the stock market. Either buy a lot of stock of x before an assassination mission or directly after then watch it and dump it a little bit after.

In recent months, I've experienced a whole series of epiphanies that have revealed to me the fact that I am now old and things are passing me by. The language used in this game made me uncomfortable was the latest in this series of revelations.
I played the game by myself to check things out before I considered popping in the disk to play it around my kids. Wise move. I'm not sure where the cutoff should be, that's a decision left for each parent to make, but I would not play this game in the presence of a 12 year old.
Agreed with all the stock market talk, especially during the 4 or 5 assassination missions. I missed out on the first one, but on the second I bought the stocks Lester mentioned and almost tripled my return. After that I found a guide on IGN with information about which stocks will me impacted during the game
I'm trying to manipulate the stock market. I bought a tonne of shares with all 3 charecters I have so far all in burger shot. I'm taking a taxi up to Paleto with Trevor and I'm blowing up all the clucking bell trucks I can find near their factory. This should tank the stock of clucking bell and help with the burger shot stock.

Wow its been a while since I've played GTA so I was ready for driving ala San Andreas. So it took me three times to do the repo mission as I kept running into stuff. I must of killed 20 aliens in the movie lot.
The opening sequence with the robbery was pretty spectacular. I'm not a big fan of the aiming system with the right stick. Is there anyway to brighten the aiming point, its next to impossible to see.
I got up to the mission where I had to go after the banker. I got out of it thanks to blowing up fuel tanks and turning gang bangers into mush.
I had trouble with the drive bye shooting on the biker mission. It says on the Xbox that its the left button. I kept pressing it and nothing much happened. So I rammed the biker and then backed my car over his corpse to be sure. Then I got screwed over by Lamar. I hate lamar.
Went to the strip club and blew a bunch of money on a lap dance got two strippers to maximum like but they wouldn't go home with me. I have to admit that the frontal nudity was interesting and creepy at the same time.
So far it looks like a great game. I'm going to finish the next repo mission, then just go on an exploration drive. I'm assuming that the green question marks on the map are the non story line things that you are talking about, like giving people rids and getting their wallets back etc?

Not exactly. The question marks are side missions, whereas the initials are more main story quests. The random events just show up...randomly. You'll be driving by, and you hear some lady screen "Hey, he's stealing my purse". A red dot will show up on the mini map, indicating the perp. Run over the red dot, and return the purse. Or keep it.
Just want to reiterate how polished this game feels. I played tonnes of Vice City, and absolutely loved it, but so much of it was so rough. The whole west island of the city was really horrible to drive on. The roads just didn't make sense. And San Andreas had some poorly implemented features like the need to feed yourself, and the ever present gang wars. And as I said, I never really got into GTA IV. One thing that seemed annoying was the need to respond to Roman (and a girlfriend) when they called asking for a date. ####, I just want to dick around, I don't want to go bowling.
But GTA V has really embraced making it fun to just dick around. Have a huge collection of guns and get wasted? Wake up outside hospital...with your huge collection of guns. No annoying friends that must be answered immediately if you are half-way across the map. And no growling stomach to deal with.
