Actually the twist is pretty important for helicopters, and I don't see a throttle control which is also pretty important. The next one up has an analog throttle and twist for not much more.

How do you guys easily switch back and forth from keyboard/mouse to joystick? I have a Saitek x36f joystick/throttle, but I feel like Battlefield games have always been too chaotic and fast paced to really use a joystick for flying. I have always been a keyboard/mouse flyer, all the way back to Desert Combat, but I do feel some of the limitations of that, especially when trying to make a hard turn. It just seems like the whole Battlefield-esque "bail out of your crashing plane, hit space, land, kill 3 people with your rifle" aspect would be tough to do if you were using a joystick to fly.

That exact scenario would be a bit more difficult, but my joystick is just sitting in front of my keyboard then I fly so it wouldn't be hard to just move my hands (joystick is basically 'on' all the time).

i use the same movement keys i have set for infantry to control my throttle, brake, and yaw for aircraft so i don't need twist (the joystick i posted does have throttle control). i used to have a joystick a few years ago that had twist, but i didn't like the feel when using it since i never bound the twist axis to anything

That's an interesting setup, a keyboard yaw might be easier to control.

I finally spent some time away from the m249 and unlocked the little recon flying thingy, you can rack up some points with that thing in a firefight spotting, and you can shoot down the other one if you get close.

Well they finally fixed the online for 360. Now there are 200+ hardcore servers so you can actually play with your friends. Before there were literally 35.

i'm noticing that hardcore mode isn't as important as it was for BC2. in Bad Company i found i had to empty half a clip into someone on normal mode to get a kill, and the abuse of grenade launchers was ridiculous. now though i find the hit detection much better in BF3 normal mode, and not a lot of people use grenade launchers that i'm seeing. and if you want to be a decent pilot, you pretty much have to play on a standard server so that you can spot people

The server I play on went FF=on for the weekend as a test, it's pretty interesting. Certainly makes you think more when spamming that last rocket, I've either been killed or TKed someone when trying to take over a tank that the guy has abandoned. Less grenade spam is good too.

Some closer in maps get a bit better too because it doesn't just become a meat grinder, at least not as much.

yeah I am so close ( 20 pts) to unlocking the next upgrade for the attack chopper. I was under the assumption you get points whether you fly or youre the gunner. So last game I am the gunner. I shoot down both of the opposing teams choppers and get the points for disabling vehicle, destroying vehicle, and killing both players in the choppers ( as in. However it doesnt give me points towards the upgrade at the end of the year.

So was my assumption about getting points whether I am flying or shooting wrong?

I've been using the Logitech Attack 3 for the last....3-4 years, amazed they still sell it unchanged from my version!

That said, its beauty since, as mentioned, you use the WSAD keys at the same time anyways to control throttle, so twist is not really needed. Its a great joystick.

Finally sat down last night and put some serious hours in, about 6 or so. Getting the M416 as assault is pretty much night and day. Went from 24 kills in 1.5 hours with the AK74 to 32 in 30 minutes with the M416.

Now to drag up my Kill Death Ratio up from the trenches.

I don't get why people care so much about Kill/Death ratio, I think win ratio is more important.

I can spend one map in the anti aircraft gun on the carrier denying the other team airspace and get a 7:0 ratio, then the next map hum all over Caspian to mortar the guy that camps in the AA to make sure our planes can do something and end up 1:10.

Both cases I'm having fun tho.

I agree about the guns, in fact it's kind of bad because I'm sticking with some of my guns instead of progressing which isn't good. The SCAR and m249 are pretty good, but I guess there's even better but it's hard to go back to a gun with just iron sights!

i don't pay much attention to win ratio since so often on pubs the teams are wildly imbalanced. you can do everything in your power to gain points for your team, but it won't do a damn bit of difference if your team mates are all a bunch of tools

Very true, but I still think trying to win is more important than k/d ratio, on that same unbalanced pub, there'll be 1 or 2 guys just playing to pump up their k/d ratio, ending the match at 30-5 but they didn't do anything but camp or snipe or whatever.

This multiplayer isn´t very noob friendly, although I'm at least not horrible, I've managed to contribute so far in my first 3 games.

The loading system Origin uses to get into multiplayer is so frustrating, takes me forever to get into games.

If you are having trouble getting kills and ranks, just select support and drop ammo all the time. Also use the M249 in prone position and get kills that way. I played for 6 hours yesterday and when from Rank 10 to 15

Oh that and alothough cheap and cheesy, the tactical light is helpful if your aim sucks because it can buy you a few moments to get shots in. Lastly if you are on metro and you are having problems pick up the 80 shotgun and run into the rooms full of enemys. you will likely get a kill or two, a few assists but you will likely ddie
