Wildcards for the Rogers Cup

Men:
Vasek Pospisil (CAN)
Philip Bester (CAN)
Erik Chvojka (CAN)
Bernard Tomic (AUS)

Women:
Genie Bouchard (CAN)
Stephanie Dubois (CAN)
Aleksandra Wozniak (CAN)

The surprising omission is Frank Dancevic. Looks like Tennis Canada is punishing him for snubbing the Davis Cup in Ecuador last month. Dancevic in reply has told TC to F-off and will not attend qualifying. Instead he will play in the 50K Challenger in Binghamton.

Sounds like a divorce, don't expect Dancevic in Israel in September.

I can't say I'm surprised. A tennis beat writer told me earlier this year that he wouldn't be shocked if Dancevic tried to play under a different country. He has both a Croatian and Serbian background, so I guess anything is possible.

Coupe Rogers!

Men's Draw

Vasek Pospisil gets J.I. Chela, if he wins that he gets FEDERER!
*However Pospisil might be tired because he's still alive in the Vancouver challenger. Semifinals today and Final tomorrow

Eric Chvojka gets Alexander Dogopolov

Philip Bester withdraw due to injury, wildcard given to Ernest Gulbis. Too late to give one to Dancevic now since he's in Binghamton!

Women's Draw

Aleksandra Wozniak gets Shahar Peer
Eugenie Bouchard gets (11) Andrea Petkovic
Stephanie Dubois gets QUALIFIER
Rebecca Marino gets Ekaterina Makarova

Pospisil doesn't have much left after playing Vancouver last week and cramping up in the 3rd set today.

Should be fine against some guy named Federer tomorrow.

Dodig wins! I'm in shock. Never did I think he could beat Nadal.

11pm in Montreal and they're going to begin Fish against Lopez.
That'll be a tight one that will go deep into the night. Insomniacs dream!

Federer loses to Tsonga again.

Like I said before, his reign as an elite tennis player is over

We'll see how he does in Cincinati and at the US Open.

The Rogers Cup is always strange because it's the first tournament for alot of players since wimbledon. That why all the seeds are falling on both Women's and Men's side.

I think that's a solid team for Canada. Isreal's best player is Sela, I'm confident Raonic, even Pospisil will be able to beat him. Raonic is a bit of a wildcard because he's coming back from an injury. I know he's training hard but that's not that same as game play.

Just saw Pospisil is ranked #124 today. I believe that's a career high. He's just about into the top 100. Great to see!

Draw:

Code:
Friday
R1: Dudi Sela (ISR) v Vasek Pospisil (CAN)
R2: Amir Weintraub (ISR) v Milos Raonic (CAN)

Saturday
R3: Jonathan Erlich/Andy Ram (ISR) v Daniel Nestor/Vasek Pospisil (CAN)

Sunday
R4: Dudi Sela (ISR) v Milos Raonic (CAN)
R5: Amir Weintraub (ISR) v Vasek Pospisil (CAN)
But word is that Milos has the flu! So if Vasek wins the first match, they may rest Milos until Sunday!

-----

Meanwhile in Sydney, Australia has taken a 1-0 lead over Suisse (Tomic over Wavrinka)

And now Hewitt has taken the first set off Federer and it up a break in the 2nd ON GRASS! Hewitt is just amazing in Davis Cup. They're playing at a golf club! And Hewitt has the crowd in a frenzy!

But Pospisil has come back to crush Sela in the 3rd set 6-1 and is now up a break in the 4th.

Great heart by the kid. Most time losing a tough tiebreak leads to a meltdown.

It's been a battle, nearly 3 and a half hours and it's 3*-2 in the 4th.
