I hope this forcasted snow turns out to be a deluge and washes away all the dust and dirt.

That's some strong snow.

Ideally we need strong rain showers to do that,

I see they tried clearing some of the gravel on deerfoot the past few nights. At least that is a good sign.

I thought I had survived the winter intact...

My father (who is in town until today... if his plane gets out!) points out to me yesterday "hey, looks like you have a big chip there on your windshield. Must have happened this week!".

FML indeed.

Past two years its gone on in March 17th and March 1st. Usually its fine except for 1-2 days where there might be snow. This year was another ball game.

My little WeatherEye tray icon just started displaying the little red thunderbolt. So we've got ourselves an official snowfall warning.

The worst thing is that this will also bring some very unwanted precipitation to the Medicine Hat area, where they are already waiting for the rivers to overflow.

Although March is our snowiest month, it actually snows more in April than it does in February and October, and it is comparable to the other winter months. It may not happen every year, but happens enough.

I remember one in late April a few years back. April 25th or so, and it must have been back in 2004 or 2005. Literally among the biggest snowfalls I have ever seen here.

Edit: And last year even, apparently we got dumped on on April 29th. I don't remember this one though... : http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...=www.google.ca

It'll be a who knows what we'll get scenario again for this warning. Even the forecasters have no idea, so they did a blanket warning again.

QUESTION THEN GETS TO BE HOW MUCH SNOW ARE WE GOING TO GET. AT THIS
POINT MOST MODELS ARE SUGGESTING 10 TO 15 MM OF PRECIPITATION BY 6AM
THURSDAY MORNING WITH MOST OF THAT FALLING NEAR CALGARY AND TO THE
SOUTHEAST. IN CONVERTING THAT LIQUID AMOUNT TO SNOW WE FIGURED ON A
COUPLE OF THINGS. WITH THIS SYSTEM THERE IS NOT A DEEP DENDRITIC
GROWTH ZONE (TEMPERATURES OF -12 TO -18) SO WE WERE KEEPING THE SNOW
WATER EQUIVALENT AROUND 10:1. ALSO THE SURFACE TEMPERATURES SHOULD
GET UP ABOVE ZERO AGAIN TODAY WITH ROAD SURFACE TEMPERATURES GETTING
WARMER THAN THAT. LAST NIGHT ROAD TEMPERATURES WERE STILL AROUND
PLUS 3 WHEN WE EXPECT THE SNOW TO START FALLING TONIGHT, SO WE ARE
EXPECTING THE FIRST FEW CM TO MELT. THERE MAY BE A FEW LOCALITIES -
CAR ROOFS AND BACK DECKS - WHERE THE SNOW DOESN'T MELT AS MUCH AND
MAY ACCUMULATE MORE. THE OTHER THING TO CONSIDER IS THIS MOVES
THROUGH SOUTHERN ALBERTA FAIRLY QUICKLY WITH MOST OF THE SNOW BEING
DONE BY NOON. THE SNOW WILL MOVE OUT OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA AND INTO
CENTRAL ALBERTA DURING THE DAY. ALSO, THIS AIRMASS IS QUITE STABLE
WITH THIS SYSTEM.

SO, SOUTHERN ALBERTA WILL SEE SOME HEAVY WET SNOW. AT THIS POINT WE
ARE GOING WITH A WIDESPREAD 5 TO 10 CM, BUT ARE REMAINING WATCHFUL.

I remember there was a massive blizzard back on April 28th, 2003 as it was my brothers birthday and we got snowed in. That's probably the one you're thinking of.

And the official weather warning from environment canada....

http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warni...246cweg-072400

Quote:
Warnings

City of Calgary
10:30 AM MDT Wednesday 13 April 2011
Snowfall warning for
City of Calgary issued

10 to 15 cm of snow expected for the foothills and over Southeastern Alberta by Thursday.

A weather disturbance will move into Southern Alberta tonight and spread and area of heavy snow into the foothills including the City of Calgary. Although the snow will be wet many areas may see 10 to 15 cm of snowfall before the snow tapers off Thursday morning.

This weather system will initially give showers to Medicine Hat and the Cypress Hills region tonight but the precipitation will change over to snow in the overnight hours. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected before the snow tapers off Thursday afternoon.

Due to some uncertainty about the exact location of the heavy snowfall it is possible that other regions may be added to the snowfall warning in further updates.

Wow, I am getting sick of this. I starting to think life is simply too short to continue living in a climate like this one.

Ya, summer days normally don't begin until Mid-Late May anyway. April is very hot/cold in terms of weather day-to-day.

I'm surprised that no one has owned up to taking their winter tires off already.

Me too, and thats the problem. Close to 30 years of this is about enough for me.
