He sings the Anthem!
As long as he doesnt get the lyrics wrong its a win.

Who was the girl that sang the anthems on St. Patrick's Day between the Flames and the Stars? She's way better than that George Canyon dude. Boot Canyon and have her do all the games. It's refreshing rather than this nasally voice that a lot of people can't stand. Sorry man, not a fan of country singing.

At most Flames games when the anthem is being sung the concourse is still full of people making their way to their seat. You would have to find some other time killer to replace it.
I say keep the anthems. That pre game fascist rally gets me into game mode.
|
Or they could just get to their seats before a specific time, I know that's crazy but just a thought.

The only thing I really care is my self perceived superstition of the teams record. I believe we have won more than lost with George singing so that is makes him good. Girl last night is one for one, which is also good.
I can't believe this thread is still going. Taking meaningless complaints to a new level.

It is crazy how so many people get to the game late. And the more expensive the seat, the more likely they will come late. For most Flames games, the club seats are about half full at puck drop.
If you replace the anthem with simply starting the game a few minutes earlier it would make it worse. You would have to have some other time killer to replace the anthem.

What? They're gonna be late any with or without the anthem.
If they want to be on time, get there on time. Simple as that. The anthem isn't going to be the difference between them being on time more than not.

I have never been a fan of Canyon. At first, I thought he was... 'ok'. After a while, his over-the-top twang-iness just gets to me and I find it a distraction more than anything. It just sounds really forced and rather fake.
I just really miss Heather.

Well, for almost the entire first season he did the anthem, he said, "True patriot love in all our sons command" instead of the correct lyric.

I don't think anyone 'hates' Canyon. TBH, I think he is impossible to hate. He seems like a great guy who you'd love to have a beer with.
I think he has a good voice. But that organ.....eughh!
I'm of the view that we don't need anthems before games. I love Canada and what it stands for and am proud when people ask me why the hell I live here when I can be in such a wonderful country. Despite that, I am entirely comfortable with no anthems before games, let's just get on with why we are here in the first place.

Was it just a decision by each individual school and I happened to go to three that didn't do it? Anyone else never sing anthems in public school?

My brother is five years younger than me and he went through school, singing the anthem.
I can't recall doing the same thing.

I believe in the Pony Power
|
I remember singing the anthem and "God Save the Queen" at every assembly.
We also sang "Baby Beluga" because that was our school mascot.
No doubt that thought of a beluga whale struck fear into the hearts of our rival schools (namely those scoundrels from St. Bede)

At the Habs-Sens game tonight at the Bell Centre - it was the crowd that sang the national anthem - kinda cool.

Here on CP, you'll find someone who hates everything.
