I'm all seriousness, if Tavares does make it to free agency we have to all in. 9/10 teams that win the cup have an elite #1 C or D. Would be pretty awesome to see 30 goal centre men on our 1st and 2nd lines.

Monahan has 20 Goals and we aren’t even half way through the season officially. He’s going to break 30 goals. I’m not saying he’s Elite, but some may suggest he’s becoming elite defensively and at a young age putting up consistent 25+goal seasons and now having a chance to hit 35-40, at such a young age, some may suggest he’s becoming elite offensively as well.
Edit: hungover and misread the last part. Agree would be nice to have two 30 goal Centermen as a one two punch.
Don’t think that package gets it done but if it did, I’m all for it.

In a heartbeat. McLellan has accomplished a hell of a lot more in his coaching career than GG. Not his fault the Oilers are no good. No brainer move.

Mony is one of my favourite players in the NHL. However I don't think he will ever be a true elite #1C. He just doesn't have enough to his game. He is one hell off a goal scorer, average defensively, and decent at dishing the puck. However he doesn't do those things that separate him from the Seguins,Tavares,Matthews, etc. If he could carry the puck in on his own it would do wonders to his stock. Tavares and Monahan would be an insane 1-2 punch. Teams would have a real tough time defending us.
Gaudreau - Tavares - Ferland
Tkachuk - Monahan - Frolik
Bennett - Janko - Hathaway
It also allows us to match Monahan and Tkachuk which I've wanted to see since we drafted chucky.

Yikes! average defensively? I mean, Johnny is great at the back check and all but he isn’t a defensive specialist by any means. Monny has to be the best forward defensively in his own end on most occasions.. I think you are underrating his game a bit.

Exactly what has he accomplished? Wasting the prime years of a loaded Sharks team?

He's made it to the western conference finals twice and won an AHL championship. What has your boy GG achieved? He hasn't even been past the first round.

He also has not been a head coach as long and he has the Flames in the mix for a playoff spot without multiple high end first rounders in the lineup and a generational centre.

You could have coached those Sharks clubs to within a game or two of what McLellan did.
All he does is open up the stables and runs his horses into the ground.

He coached some pretty good Sharks teams but couldn't win the Cup.

Nah. He won't get the HC gig. Can probably get an assistant gig.
I would like to see Treilving go after the following:
Scotty Bowman - Head Coach
Phil Jackson - Offence
Bill Belichek - Defence
Joe Torre - Goaltending
Sir Alex Ferguson - Power Play
Mike Krzyzewski - Penalty Kill

For those who are interested in James Neal:
On HNIC, Kypreos said extension talks with Vegas is expected soon.
McPhee won't give a 7 or 8 year deal to a 31 year old
Likely will offer a 4-5 year deal with an AAV of $6.5 mil which is possible for Neal to accept if he likes the $ more than the term.

I like Neal, but I wouldn't want to give a 31 year old a 5 year 6.5 million dollar deal.

I believe it's $4.5 million for the player and an additional $2.0 million for his knees.

Monahan is getting criminally underrated, and I think it's because he plays with Gaudreau. Monahan is under the radar next to Johnny.
Will he be a top 5 centre in the league? Likely not. But would he walk onto most team's first lines? Absolutely

I completely disagree.
He is an elite finisher but when Gaudreau and Ferland aren’t feeding him in the slot, he contributes almost nothing either offensively or defensively
The strange thing is, when Gaudreau went down last year, Monahan really seemed to become more of a driver and less of a passenger. He has the skills to be a 1c but just seems like he’s happy to let Gaudreau do all the work most of the time
Edit: I’ll add that perhaps his defensive shortcomings might be a product of how average to bad Gaudreau is in the defensive zone. Monahan never really seems to make the bad d zone plays but he doesn’t have much success when compared to the other centres imo
