I forgot I'd posted this! apparently some backlash haha.
Horvat and Bennett play similar games, similar age to be in the league, and both have similar point totals.
For the record though, I hate the Canucks.

Much as the thought pattern the previous few years in taking on a bad contract player for a prospect or pick, this will probably work similar.
If you think Stamkos can continue at a resonable pace for the duration of the contact then you do this bearing you have the cap space and limited "bad contracts" in the system.

Sure, but what teams in the NHL aren't either A) a budget team or B) a cap team? That's a bit of a mythical organization you're referring to, imo. Pretty much every team in the NHL is either bound by an internal budget or is spending to the cap (or being prepared to do so) trying to put together a championship team.

Flames sure are scouting Dallas' AHL team a lot it seems.

If the rumours of Calgary being interested in cowen are true, I would not be surprised if they were taking a look at oleksiak.

Campbell, Ritchie and Faksa are ones I like a lot in the Stars system.

I've yet to see Horvat use his hands to beat defenders. Sure they both have speed and like to take the puck to the net, but Bennett definitely has a big edge in puck handling.

I think Horvat is likely to project more like Backlund than Monahan or Bennett IMO. If we're looking for a good comparison on the Flames, it's likely a more physical Backlund.

I suppose you could call a 20 year old, 2nd year player and a 19 year old, 1st year player 'similar' (if you were reaching).
Horvat has never shown the offensive skill that Bennett has.

I believe there were rumours back at the 2012(?) draft that the Flames we big on Faksa. Different management and coaches on the Flames now, so probably means nothing now though.

Kris Russell would be a really good fit for Dallas.

I wonder how Backlund would feel being called a not so physical Horvat. That just doesn't sound very good when you say it out loud.

I hate the Canucks as much as the next guy, but if you take off the Flames Homer glasses, the kid has pretty good skill.
I think Bennett likely had more upside pts wise but I think importance to team both bring a lot.
And I think Horvat upside will be higher than Backlund.
Anyways I'm done giving accolades to the Nucks' haha.

You're trying too hard.
And yeah, Horvat is a good player. But he is no Bennett, no matter how hard you want him to be.

A Bennett/Horvat comparison is probably closer than a Horvat/Backlund comparison though. Backlund is 6 years older and his career years so far are comparable to what Horvat is already doing at 20. Although I agree that Bennett has a higher ceiling than Horvat. Horvat's game is great for a 20 year old, Bennett's game is slightly better than great his and is more than a full calendar year younger.
A better comparison to Horvat's potential might be ex-Canuck Kesler, but without the sliminess.

Jack Campbell from the East Coast Hockey League? I think I would rather have Olivier Roy.

Ooohhh, Okay. I'll just throw out some buzz words then.
Buy Low, Change of scenery, still need organizational goalie depth all the way through from ECHL to NHL. So yeah, THAT Jack Campbell.
