Except, again, the Americans won't play if it's not in America. Now it's fine that Ecuador gave up their hosting rights but they will want it back to Brazil, Argentina etc... at some point.

I believe in the Jays.
|
Why wouldn’t the Americans want to be a part of it? This would have way more potential to become a big event compared to the Gold Cup.

Why not? I would argue that the US playing Copa America in and against the likes Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, etc. would have many more benefits than perpetually hosting the usual Concacaf clubs in the Gold Cup.
It would be a bigger TV event in the US than the Gold Cup could ever be, even if not on US soil.

A joint quadrennial tournament would bring in way more TV revenue than hosting the lame Gold Cup that no one cares about. It would rival the Euros.

Yeah the US not playing in it but every other North American team competing in the biggest North American football competition would be an absolute disaster for the USMT. They wouldn't get the international playing experience, ticket sales, merchandise, etc.
US would be all in, especially if Mexico, Canada and Central American teams are allowed in.
It would take a monumental reason as to why they wouldn't participate in this.

You still have to have a Gold Cup. You can't scrap that to have a few invited teams to someone else's tournament every 4 years. CONCACAF has 41 members

I don't disagree with you guys but the Americans won't go unless they host it. The host every single Gold Cup. They've been invited to the Copa America every time and haven't gone since 2007 where they sent a B team. 2016 they hosted and it was a special tournament. The only Copa America they've really played in was 1995, they finished 4th in Uruguay

Still don't buy it, especially with the US needing to have a stellar team for 2026, not to mention CONCACAF competition is far more tight now than 10-15 years ago. US will need this tournament to test, develop and adjust coaching and talent before hosting.

Yes, they will go to this tournament, they're hosting. I don't think they go to 2028 etc.. unless they're hosting.

That seems like a Hail Mary prediction. Why would the US not play ball when all the other heavy hitters jockey for national team rankings improvement and program development?
Weird take.

Because they never have. This is not the first time this has been introduced.

Osorio won't be moving to Europe this offseason after all. Signed a new 3 year contract with an option for 2026.
He's talked about going to Europe for years, but making millions of dollars and becoming a club legend for your hometown team and playing in a couple World Cups isn't a bad gig.

Pretty crazy the guy used to have season tickets for the club he's carved out legend status at. I also would have a hard time leaving the Flames if I made the team

I think his serious medical condition over the past year, which has resulted him in not playing for many months, likely closed some doors that may have previously been open.

And another transfer. Signs through 2026. Glad Cornelius was able to get a solid 1.5 years on loan in Greece to rebuild his career before a transfer to a similar level.

Alistair Johnston made his Celtic debut away at Rangers, and apparently did quite well. When there's a 1500 word essay detailing your debut, you're playing for a big club...
Quote:
By the end of the match Johnston had accumulated almost 90 touches, remained the man who made the most successful tackles (four) and married that with a clearance and three recoveries for the concession of two fouls. He passed the ball at an 85 per cent accuracy rate.
"Alistair's ready to go - he wants to be a Celtic footballer and there's no better way to start his career," Postecoglou said about his selection pre-match. Indeed, on this evidence, his manager wasn't wrong.

Koné getting big minutes right away is not something that I expected but what an opportunity for him. And sounds like everyone is raving about him at Watford
