I don't like the idea of trading Bennett just when he's turning the corner. This team has been struggling for offense and I don't think trading a guy who's been one of the top scorers on the team lately is a good solution.

No way Bennett is going anywhere. He's been the most consistent and dynamic forward for a month as he's finally rounding into form.
Regardless of how this team does this year against expectations after trading away so many high picks, the thought of tkatchuk, Bennett, Jankowski pushing from more prominent top 6 and special teams time, has to be exciting to most fans.

Some more stuff on Duclair:
http://arizonasports.com/story/13679...y-nearing-end/
Quote:
In 31 games this season, Duclair has seven goals (on 10.9 percent shooting) and 13 points, but he is averaging just 13:20 of ice time (10th among regular Arizona forwards) and he has been a healthy scratch 10 times.
When asked for an explanation, here is what coach Rick Tocchet said recently: “You have to give effort. You’ve got to know the system. You’ve got to know where you’re going. It’s not on your own program. I’m not saying it’s just him. I’m not trying to pick on him. I just don’t think the effort’s there, quite frankly, on every night.”
This isn’t the first time Duclair has been in a coach’s doghouse. Former Coyotes coach Dave Tippett wanted more from Duclair, and Duclair had similar issues in juniors. That track record is hard to ignore.
There have also been problems with Duclair’s consistency, in-game focus and situational awareness, problems that have persisted this season despite constant cajoling from the coaches.
On the other hand, it is hard to ignore Duclair’s speed and ability to score in limited opportunities this season; a tantalizing combination if it can ever be harnessed. Duclair’s 1.02 goals scored per 60 minutes played is the third best mark on the team. So is his 0.88 goals per 60 minutes at even strength, and he is still sixth among forwards in Corsi For percentage (48.05).
Why is he singled out in a sea of players that has made a litany of mistakes in a 9-27-5 start? Weren’t Tocchet’s communication skills and ability to get through to younger players a key bullet point on his resume this summer? Why then, after four months, are the Coyotes so willing to pull the plug so quickly on a 22-year-old player who scores — on a team that is second to last in the NHL in goals per game (2.27)?
There must be more than meets the eye, but now both sides are seeking a fresh start.
The market for Duclair wasn’t strong after last season’s performance. It’s difficult to say how much it has improved in light of his current situation, but with both sides trying to find him another home, something likely will give.

Backlund is one of my favourite flames. Big picture i think its better to deal him to a contender as i think he would haul in a huge package. Only way i would deal him is if it you could take the return and immediately flip it for a guy like ryan orielly.

If the team does end up having to move Backlund, it might make sense to move him to a team like PIT as they're likely all-in and looking for a checking C ...
... would the Flames have interest in Daniel Sprong? ... I just noticed he's been called up again... he's a RH RW... maybe Sprong + 1st?

Spring has had quite the hype train behind him. That Pitt 1st is looking good as well.
If the Flames and Backs can’t agree on terms I like this deal

i love backes...
but if this team misses the playoffs, big changes will be made... i'd prefer Backlund as part of the solution, because i think he's foundation player...
but those are also the kind of guys that playoff teams would overpay for...it would be a quick way to inject some elite talent into the system
really depends on how the contract negotiations are going.

So trade Home grown Backlund and then use those assets to get a more expensive, not home grown, Backlund like player?
Makes sense.

it makes sense to get a 1st from a bubble team (unprotected), then hope they don't make it in.

Earlier in the thread I advocated for trading Backlund and replacinghim with Janko/Bennett. After the Kings game I’m not so sure anymore. He won critical draws at the end of the game.
If the MO is playoffs no matter what, maybe we keep him and view him as an internal rental. If it is about asset management, then you move him for a good haul and recoup some picks. Maybe that’s been the play all along. The last option is to keep him and move his rights in the off season. Can see his rights worth a 3rd or 4Th.
I’m not an advocate of signing him to a long term deal as I see him going into decline and we need to start promoting our young guys. Maybe Dube makes the jump and fills one of the C roles - I like what I’ve seen so far.

^ I hope that's not a UFA Tavares.
I'm all seriousness, if Tavares does make it to free agency we have to all in. 9/10 teams that win the cup have an elite #1 C or D. Would be pretty awesome to see 30 goal centre men on our 1st and 2nd lines.
