At the time McHobo signed his deal, I could see why it made some sense to him. The Oilers were coming off of their first playoff appearance in more than a decade, and they actually won a round. But since he was already being marketed as the new face of the NHL, I am sure that he likely had to weigh the consequences of what it might mean to appear disloyal to his team. I agree, it was a bad decision, and I don't think he is smart enough to have recognised that at the time he made it.
