I asked this already, but why does he start a thought in one tweet, then take like 15 or more minutes to post the second part of it? Weird.

Seriously though, is there anything more dangerous to the world than a US President that thinks he is never wrong, and is unwilling to accept new information before coming to a decision?

Also, this tweet;

“Sorry losers and haters, but my I.Q. is one of the highest—and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.”

Trump - baby hands with the dexterity of a 100 year old. Very slow, not intelligent, huge whiner. Sad!

True.

I guess the only difference is that now it actually matters what he says. Before, no one listened to him or took him that seriously. Now the whole world hears his lunacy and narcissism on a daily basis.

The premier and a bunch of Internet posters are as important as the U.S. President?

How the mighty have fallen.

Please do go on. Because this is a really weird thing to say and I want to see where it's going.

what MelBridgeman's trying to say is that if he woke up one morning and felt like rapidly devaluing the currencies of foreign nations with a series of incoherent tweets, he could do it just as easily as any internet troll.

He's really watering this Fake News seed. A good way to preemptively invalidate any future criticism coming his way in the eyes of his base.

Yes, he has. This behavior was cultivated in the 1980s and 1990s with the New York tabloids. Trump would troll them mercilessly because he loved the attention. Trump would actually call in and leave tips for the tabloids using the name John Barron (interesting he would later name his son Barron). The tabloids would call him for comment and he would flatly deny the claims and then threaten to sue if the information got out. He would routinely get into public spats with other celebrities and politicians in New York because it got him front page coverage. He's an egomaniac and his behaviors support that claim.

This is a very dangerous development. This is the act of an authoritarian and is an imminent threat to our democracy. When a leader gets to pick and choose who his press is, and then damns everything else as being non-credible, he is telling the people what to believe and how they should think. History is littered with tin-pot dictators who beat a similar drum. The difference between those tin-pot dictators and Trump is one of the strongest militaries in the world and a few thousand nukes.

Monica Crowley is out for her national security job. I guess having to go back through all her previous work to ensure it's properly sourced is going to be pretty time consuming.

Trump really needs to grow a thicker skin if he hopes to be an effective President. That's some junior high level tweet right there, and the guy is freaking 70 already. Mentally, it really feels like those kids movies where a grade school kid just became President.

It's funny you mention this. I was reading a paper last week that talked about how to psychologically control people and tactics that people like cult leaders and dictators use.

They said that if you are already believed within your group of followers, you usually only have to repeat something, no matter how ridiculous, 3-5 times before it is taken as absolute truth. And the best way to become "believed" is to play yourself as a victim or target of some kind, and then include those people with you.

With respect to the bolded, Garry Kasparov's twitter is a gem in deconstructing authoritarian tendencies. It is also a pretty depressing read. He's basically predicted much of what Trump is doing. Unfortunately, his predictions are not because he was a Chess Grandmaster and being able to predict multiple movements ahead of time, but because he's seen this playbook play out before.

Obama didn't talk about a peaceful transition of power 20 times in his farewell address to get a point across about the current election.

With his sharp comments concerning Nato at the worst time with Russia acting aggressively in Eastern Europe. Trump might be playing the blackmail game with Nato with a message of "Start paying your fair share or we'll resolve it"

I would expect that in terms of Norad and Nato and Canada's role in it, there's a bit of a day of reckoning coming to Canada in terms of pulling our own weight financially when it comes to the defense of North America.

Its the message that Harper came soon after he was elected and he met with the US president who plainly stated "Someday a president is going to call Canada on its defense policy and Canada is going to lose its voice in the defense of North America and in NATO"
