I wouldn't be surprised if Bean is the first dman that comes off the board.

I actually agree with what dissentowner wrote a couple days ago, that Columbus isn't interviewing Brown/Keller because they're looking to trade down, but that they're actually looking to acquire another top10 pick.

They have to make some big trades very soon here, with the expansion draft looming and all of their NMCs.

I'm not sure who they would see as expendable that could net them a top 10 pick?

Nurse is proving that he doesn't have the hockey IQ to play in the top four in the NHL. His skill level is also limited in that regard. When you look around the conference at the quality of defensemen in the top four on each team it is hard to see Nurse ever developing into one of those players. Reinhart is almost the opposite. You can see the head making the right decisions, but his body just can't make the plays. He is minor league talent. Even with the Oilers complete lack of talent on the blueline Reinhart was unable to force his way into that lineup. Good lord, you talk about Klefbom and Davidson as being players to think highly of, but Klefbom wouldn't crack the top four opn most teams in the conference and Davidson likely doesn't even get a sniff and spends the season in the AHL. The situation on Edmonton's blueline should be a panic levels, yet the Oilers braintrust, and the kool-aid swilling fans, continue to believe that they are the right course, so should take another forward.

There are a bunch of things going on here that make me think EDM would be better served by drafting a F.

- I don't think teams should draft for need, and the best consensus prospects available at 4 OV are F's.

- Even if I did, the D available are unlikely to address the "need" for D immediately .

- As previously mentioned, IMO the prospect pool is weaker at F than D.

- Based on the things I've read and the chatter that seems to be floating around, it seems reasonable to guess that Chiarelli is looking to deal from the F's to upgrade the D, which will change the relative "need" equation.

Just a hunch? I haven't really heard of a team loving him that much that they would take him over the other three.

Might have the most upside and in a world where puck moving dmen are becoming more important - he fits that bill.

I don't know if there is much separation between the top 3 dmen, but would include Bean and maybe McAvoy to make it a group of 5 that could go in any order.

If forced to bet, I would bet Joe Levi is the first, but that Bean is the 2nd.

God I hope not. We'd hear endless references to Puljujarvi being Jari Kurri to McDavid's Gretzky.

If you're going to have 5 dmen than you may as well include Dante Fabbro who excelled at the Under 18s and is ranked highly in a number of draft projections.

Taking into account all that and it makes you wonder why he isn't a slam dunk to be the first defenceman to go.
Most of the rankings I've seen have him ahead of Chychrun. So I guess the question is why Juolevi is ranked higher on most lists. That seems to be because Juolevi plays a smart, pro game already, and there's little doubt he'll be an effective NHL defenceman. He's close to zero risk.

If CBJ passes on Puljujarvi and EDM gets him I am seriously going to lose it.

Me too, because they will turn him into a pile of garbage.

If Edm turns Puljujarvi into a pile of garbage at least they aren't hurting future Team Canada rosters this time around.

I think playing with McDavid would make it impossible for puljujarvi to turn into a bad player and if Edmonton get him I'm going to be very choked cause that's going to make life miserable for the Flames. We'd be in quite the arms race and Edmonton would be starting with quite the lead. Management wakes up and they would be able to build quite the powerhouse with that many good young forwards from all of those years of being garbage.

Treliving needs to be all over Columbus if there's a chance they don't want Puljujarvi cant think of a worse outcome than Edmonton getting any of the top 3.

Here's an averaged "consensus" list made by someone on HF. Please note it is editable so watch out if you change things you're changing it for everybody.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1854770418

The results are the following with the 2nd number being their average position across all lists:

1. Matthews - 1.1
2. Laine - 1.9
3. Puljujarvi - 3.0
4. Tkachuk - 4.7
5. Dubois - 4.8
6. Nylander - 8.0
7. Juolevi - 8.1
8. Chychrun - 8.8
9. Keller - 9.3
10. Sergachev - 9.8
11. Jost - 11.2
12. Brown 11.8

It really drops off after that and I think the above players are the ones we should focus on for the Flames picks. Interesting that Chychrun comes ahead of Sergachev on this consensus list. Personally I'd throw out a few of those rankings if I was making my own consensus list but I know some of you will find this interesting.

Switch Sergachev and Chychrun and that looks perfect for me.

Arms race? Starting with quite the lead? Edmonton had already selected three players 1st overall by the time the Flames got Monahan. Then a year later they selected Draisaitle 3rd overall when we got Bennett 4th. If it's an arms race and about collecting high end talent Edmonton wins, and had a massive head start.

Not worried about that.

It would hurt to see JP fall to the Oil though. If Columbus do not want him, the Flames need to acquire that #3 pick.
