Hi any suggestions for a nice but friendly course in Scottsdale where I can take my girlfriend. She’s good for nine holes and would ride along on the back. Maybe an afternoon rate. Thanks!

What's your budget? And your location?
The Phoenician is a great Scottsdale experience.

Thanks! Was thinking the Phoenician as well. Perhaps to stay. We are looking at places near Camelback or North Scottsdale. Perhaps the Fairmont Princess although TPC would be too challenging I think.

If you stay at the Fairmont, Kierland is a good option for a playable track for the GF.
But you can't go wrong with The Phoenician

was talking to a coworker who grew up in the area and he mentioned new owners. The website confirms it and they are already doing some clubhouse renovations. Here's hoping the overall experience is improved as well, that course is a great local option when you are not being harassed by the marshal.

It’s been fine for a few years. Haven’t had any issues with marshals.

I've heard bad stories about marshals from others (though never experienced it myself), but my issue with them was with the owner's treatment of us during a mini tournament we held there. Very unprofessional.

I think their poor reputation came from a couple grumps working in the clubhouse, along with one particular jerk of a marshal. We were indeed yelled at once by the dude because the slower group in front of us allowed us to play through- we were 2, they were 4 sort of thing. He suggested they didn't allow that.

Thanks for the heads-up about Water Valley changing ownership. I'll put it back on my list. I hated the way my playing partners and I were treated by staff there in the past.

They could have used a few angry Marshall’s the last couple years in fact. Last 3 rounds there were over 5 hours.

Echo the comments about Water Valley. Will give them a go this year.

Super long rounds from what I've heard more than a few times. That's one thing I just can't contend with. I can set aside 4-4.5 hours plus driving time. It's weird and probably psychological due to sitting on holes, but when I creep up over 5 hours and had a 25-35min drive each way I get to the point where I regret giving up the day for golf....as it starts to feel like you literally gave up the day for golf.

Man, how quickly things can change in Alberta. I was so excited teeing off in March, already tallying up the extra rounds I'd get in this year with my membership. Now after 3 early, miserable rounds I'm wondering if I'll get any non jacket/touque rounds in for all of April, lol.
Looking like non golf weather for the last week of April at this point. Then you're down to a 5 month season and hoping for magic in October to extend it a bit.

Not saying you expect more than five months when you live in Alberta, but usually you at least get a few decent rounds in April to kick things off. But also, it's the March openings that made virtually no April golf harder to swallow.
We live in a province with 5-7 months of golf, and two months is a lot. Let's hope for mild, golf-friendly October now.

I usually save this for the super weather thread...but one of my enduring memories of growing up in Calgary was watching the Masters in April...getting excited for the opening of the courses, and then eating the absolute S-burger that was the late April snow storm.
Worse than the October freeze that ruins Halloween or the rainy June that f'd 80% of my sports days as a kid.
Just book a trip to BC this time of year every year and don't get your hopes up...and laugh all the way to the bank on June 21st when you're walking off 18 at 1050pm with a little light still.

I have a tee time tomorrow that I fully expect to play. Can’t be a fair weather golfer in this city…
