Yes, there were certain 'consensus' tiers of prospects.
1.) MacK
2.) Drouin, Jones, Barkov Jr
3.) Lindholm, Monahan
But Conroy said they had Mony at 4 - supplanting someone from that 2nd tier - it leads me to believe that they were looking to use that 6th on a strong center.
And Roof-Daddy you're a good guy but damn you undervalue the heck out of Ekblad. It makes it more difficult to take your mock drafts or proposals regarding him seriously.

I can hardly wait for the draft. I'm starting to second guess the players I like. Bennett will always be too small to play his style of game in the NHL. Reinhart and Draisaitl aren't good enough skaters. Ekblad will be a number 4 D-man. Aargh....Bring on the draft!

If we are set on picking Ritchie, we have to trade down.. at least to 6-8 and pick up another 2nd. Ritchie at four is (most likely) a waste.

I agree... If we want Ritchie that bad, I would trade Toronto, who seems like they would overpay for the 4th spot.

They don't HAVE to trade down if their goal is Ritchie.
If they feel another team will take Ritchie before they get to their new spot or if they feel Ritchie is the only prospect left that is significantly better than anyone else, they won't move down.

We don't have to take Ritchie at all and can instead pick a player that is better and actually fills a positional need.

I am hoping that this is a fake out by Burke to try and get the Oilers to take Ritchie.

Phew...I hope so. Otherwise, I'll need a large bottle of tums at draft time.

I could see Tallon taking Bennett at #1 if he doesn't trade down. Florida has a lot of defensive prospetcs in their system already who are looking good (Petrovic, Mattheson, MacCoshen, Weegar etc.)
In that case I could see Draisaitl being the one dropping to Flames:
Florida - Bennett
Buffalo - Reinhart
Edmonton - Ekblad
Calgary - Draisaitl
Although I think that Tallon really wants to trade down and get an impact player who can play now, since Bennett would be at least a couple years a way like Nylander or Ehlers.

If they want Ritchie (who I am scared to death is Chris Dingman 2.0), they have to trade down unless they are absolutely certain somebody else loves him.
The consensus in almost the entire scouting community is that Ritchie is not a top 4 pick. If he is their guy, at the very least play some poker with the Isles or Nucks and get a 2nd rounder out of it. The Isles seem to be pretty set on Dal Colle or Draisaitl from what I'm reading, so if the Flames start feigning trade talks with a team in the 7-15 range who really wants their guy they should be able to leverage at worst a 3rd rounder.

I wouldn't consider Draisaitl to the flames a drop.

If they want Ritchie that bad I really hope they're planning on acquiring a second top-10 pick to do it.
It they passed on Bennett, Reinhart or Ekblad in favour of Ritchie at #4 I might blow a gasket. I'm not 100% sold on Draisaitl, and I would still pick him or Dal Colle ahead of Ritchie, but if that went down on draft day I could just about stomach it.
Moral of the story is: I really hope someone picks Draisaitl in the top 3.

Everyone settle down. We're not drafting Ritchie at four. Period.

i think everyone will be happily surprised (and relieved) when Reinhart falls to 4 and the flames pick him. Then in a couple years once both Sam and Max are Flames regulars, Griffin will sign with calgary/request a trade and we'll reunite the brothers. Everyone's happy.
