Ugh I also hate Jason Bateman. He hasn’t done anything funny in years and always plays the exact same annoying character.

Thor 4 was SM3 bad. Very similar in tone and cringeyness too.

you always here that story that George Lucas hired an editor for A New Hope after pretty much having it cut, the guy said the movie was absolutely terrible, and someone talked George into a completely different cut, creating one of the most successful original film concepts ever.
I suspect Thor 4 really needed a good editor, I think there was so much potential in the stuff they did do. But they really just let Tikkas ADHD get it's hands on the editing and within any given scene they were just all over the place.

The guy was Marcia Lucas, his wife. She edited A New Hope into a coherent movie.

couldn't really remember the story. But that was the feeling i had leaving Thor, I was like wow, that was a poorly put together narrative, and I immediately thought of that anecdote.

I personally enjoyed Thor 4, mostly because Christian Bale was stellar, but I see why people didn't so much. Taika Waititi shouldn't be given carte blanche, or you just end up with way too much of his humor. He needs to be told to dial it back occasionally.

In case some of you don't do the Netflix thread.
We watched Enola Holmes 2 on the weekend.
A really good PG-13 movie. Better than the first one, I think.

I saw Black Adam because I wanted to go do a 4dx thing... Yeah that's a bad movie. I think maybe there was a decent movie lurking in there somewhere, but it did more or less everything wrong.

Finally saw TAR last night.
Amazing. Loved it. We need more movies that challenge the audience like that

Went out to see it yesterday also, I purposely stayed away from all trailers and reviews and was glad I did, best way to see movies. It's definitely a challenging watch but beautifully done, I imagine the 2nd viewing will be just as enjoyable. For every stupid Thor or Morbius movie (which I also watch) I'm glad we still have filmakers doing this type of work.
If you enjoyed Whiplash you should look into Tar, slightly similar in subject and tone.

During my staycation in the summer I watched A LOT of New Hollywood era films. And I think TAR is the closest watch to something like that in a contemporary film I've seen in a while.
Blancett may well win another Oscar. I was so glad I went to the theatre to see it because the sound design is

It reminds me a lot of Martin McDonagh's brother John Michael's film Calvary, not only because of the setting and that Brendan Gleeson stars in both, but the sad plot. I saw Calvary alone and a friend of mine was a little upset I hadn't invited him along, but I know he hates depressing movies, and he asked me to spoil it a little: "The priest ends up being a pedophile or something, right?"
"No."
"But he is a bad person or something, right? Like, he did something to deserve being threatened with his life?"
"No, he's a good man."
"####, okay, I'm glad I didn't see it."
Similarly in " Banshees", Colin Farrell's 'Pádraic' does nothing to deserve the scorn of his former best friend 'Colm' (Gleeson). I'm sure my friend would hate this movie, but I felt a funny irony that me specifically going to see it without him kind of makes me 'Colm' to his 'Pádraic'...
|
I'm looking forward to seeing this. The combination of Farrell and Gleeson was so fantastic in In Bruges. That was a dark movie as well. How do you rate it compared to that?

+1 on RRR, I watched it through a few sittings several months ago and it's an absolute riot. A movie that's just thoroughly and sincerely dedicated to entertaining the viewer.
