Kamanev is 6'2, 205, slick skating pass first player who plays the boards and holds onto the puck. He is already what we all hoped Colborne would be and still has the potential to be a Nischkushkin Lite. He was the captain of the Russian junior team.
Potential steal.

I like a lot of players in the top 15. Reminds me of the Monahan draft.

Part of me would like to see the Flames go hard after him if he made it free agency, another part of me think whoever signs him to his big free agent contract will regret it.
Currently on pace for 70 points but is he closer to the consistent 70 point defensively aware winger he was with the Stars before the lockout or the sub-50 point producer he has been since the lockout?

I watch a ton of B's games, and he's looked way better this year but the previous years he has looked slow, out of place, and just plain injured. He's getting older and slowing down and has had concussion issues. The cost of him on a UFA level isnt what we should be going after.

I don't think the Flames should consider signing anymore UFA veterans to big money deals. The cap space has to be saved for the core. Johnny, Monahan and Bennett will take up a lot of that.
Flames will need another young core forward to add to that group. The key word being young. A veteran UFA just won't work out long term.
Flames need to be aggressively pursuing early to mid 20 European UFAs who have slipped through the cracks like Panarin and Carl Soderberg. I know they were in on Panarin last year, sucks they lost out to the Hawks.

RUMOR: Word out of Florida indicates that F Brandon Pirri could be traded soon after being the odd man out in line rushes during this mornings practice, indicating he will be a healthy scratch tonight. One team that has expressed considerable interest in him so far is the Winnipeg Jets.

I think Pirri is the type of guy the Flames should be looking at for their top 6, as opposed to re-signing a guy like Hudler or another expensive UFA vet.
What they need is a young cost controlled top 6 core piece to complement Johnny, Monahan, and Bennett, but that is only going to come through the draft or some Treliving wizardry.
In the meantime, they should be trying out youngish cost effective secondary complements like Pirri. They don't necessarily profile as core guys due to certain weaknesses in their game, but they are still young enough to develop and you hope that can hit the jackpot.
The Flames did this with Huselius and it worked out well for a few years. Patrick Sharp is another example of a guy who wasn't necessarily highly regarded but ended up developing later in his career. The Hawks identified potential in Sharp and acquired him for a low cost from the Flyers after he toiled in their minor league system for years.

gary lawless @garylawless
sounds like price for @FlaPanthers F Brandon Pirri is a third line F and a pick (2nd roundish), likely too high for a team out of playoffs

Is Pirri himself much better than a 3rd liner? Looking at Florida's abundance of young talent, it's hard to imagine him ever being a second line fixture on that team.

I wonder if they would consider one of our B prospect Dmen such as Wotherspoon in lieu of a 2nd.
Raymond and Wotherspoon for Pirri? Lol

Pirri is an absolute shooter, one of the best young shooters in the game. He can score from just about anywhere. He's very fast as well. Not a terrible passer or stick handler, but doesn't do much of either enough. He's a VERY selfish player. Often shoots regardless of the situation. Scored 22 goals last year but had just 2 assists. He's a bit of a floater defensively and often doesn't battle hard enough 1 on 1.
Basically, he's got a very high skill set, but has struggled to play a team focused game especially in his own zone. Kind of had the same problems in Chicago too. It doesn't look like he's going to change much, so he's a pretty risky pickup IMO.
For the record, I still like Pirri, but he can be infuriating at times.
