I think it's just luck over the course of a season. His wRC+ bounces around between 90-110 and he's at 96 this year. An average hitter that can look really good when the hits are coming at the right times, like earlier in the year, or can look really bad when the hits are not coming at the right times, like now.
As Cali said, he's pretty much a perfect 4th outfielder. He's basically the "replacement guy" for the OF while consistently being above replacement value over the long haul.

Not sure I agree. Having the bullpen throw 7 or 8 innings will potentially have consequences beyond today. This game is probably a write-off anyway - it will be for sure if we go to the pen, but there's at least a chance that Berrios rights his ship if he stays in.

Okay, why bring in Thornton in the 4th? Why not let Berrios work out his issues? Going to the pen in the 4th means that the Chisox will hit double digits and the game is over. So what's the cost of sticking with Berrios for a while?
