Issue is, if they slip to lose the division or AL now playing in the WC now it will be a massive choke job this last week of the season just like 1987 and it will not be positive going into a 3 game series.
Either way will see decade old clips of Bautista, followed up by clips of the meltdown vs the Mariners and Schneider getting the word to pull Berrios after 2.5 innings vs the Twins. And then probably camera shots of an annoyed Berrios in the bullpen.
The Jays are going to come out so tight at home whether it be game 1 of the WC or DS. Gausman and that game will be wasted. In the WC you have to win Game 2 so all the pressure is on, after being tight in Game 1.
If they lose Game 1 WC and come back and win 2 straight in the WC they’ll have used the best 3 starters. They’ll be another champagne celebration and talk about slaying the dragon, but with only a day off and having to then face a tougher opponent who hasn’t had all that stress and metal energy expended, nevermind the physical toll in the previous days. A team that will be on a high because they succeeded this week while the Jays choked.
Jays only get to the ALCS and beyond if they avoid the WC, as I have said for a while now.
