Meanwhile Crosby's Pens Are top 10.
Even in his old age, Sid can elevate his team better than McOverrated.

HDCF% 16th
That's a non playoff team in five on five play.
7th in sh% but they do have two elite players
9th in PDO
1st in xGF60 on the powerplay.
I honestly didn't think they could repeat what they did in the regular season last year (high sh% and PP) but they did. Shows you what high end talent can do.
But will they wilt again when the games get tighter (playoffs)?

I wonder if the way penalties are called in the playoffs will negatively affect the Oilers.
The special teams on which they rely might not be realized in the same way.

At least early in playoffs in recent times its been called pretty close to regular season standards.
Irrelevant though as the Leafs and Jets are deep enough to overcome them in a 7 game series, and neither team is elite. If they thought the rebuilding Blackhawks were an unfair challenge... lol. Can't wait to hear the excuses this time.
As soon as that goaltending lays a stinker (probably by its own hand) the house of cards likely collapses.

This. If Smith provides even just average goaltending, this team is out of the playoffs. The media will cry that the coil were robbed of glory by inadequate goaltending, they will pile on Smith and dream of their manifest destiny with McDingus. Next year, really...

You really have to ask? I have no doubt in my mind. A couple players surrounded by mediocre junk won't win you a darn thing in the playoffs.

I’m not sure what all of this oilies see playoffs stuff is all about. The last time they made the playoffs was when trump was inaugurated.
Before that?
Remember when google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion. And saddam Hussein was captured?
Yup 2006.
I guess it’s only natural that oilies fans would be desperate and therefore not actually know what playoffs are.
More hilarity? McAvi was 9 the second last time that they made the playoffs.

I have triplet girls who will turn three this summer.
They want to watch “the hockeys” with dad.
They recognise the logo as “the Calgary Flames”.
I ask them: “Girls, what is Edmonton?”
In unison: “No good”.
It brings a tear to my eye every time.
Mama Bear congratulated me for brainwashing them. I said “No, dear. I’m educating them.”

Haha. My 4 year old son says that the orange Oilers jerseys look like baby poop and he has no qualms telling everyone including strangers. He is lucky he is cute and can pull it off in public. Best part is he came up with it all himself.

The problem with PPG is that Neal looks less worse as games he has sat don't count. He is paying millions to add points so popcorn games should count. Unless he is not taking payment for them.
His actual PPG for games he is being paid for is 0.1333333333
Neal is NO GOOD
Edmonton, also, and always, is NO GOOD.

16 goal 33 point pace is not ideal for a $5.25M cap hit but Lucic does bring another element to the team that makes him a serviceable player on the roster. Neal is completely unplayable and will almost certainly be bought out very soon hitting the Oil with the buyout and retention dead cap.
Treliving obviously made a tremendous mistake when he signed James Neal but looking back at it today he was able to salvage it the best he could. He got a draft pick and a much better player in return. Edmonton got a really lucky/hot start in a season that ended up as a playoff miss and now Neal sits in the press box while Lucic nears double digit goals

Since the trade... - Lucic: 115 GP / 17 G / 22 A / 39 P / -14
- Neal: 74 GP / 22 G / 15 A / 37 P / -21
The Flames have played 117 games since the trade. Lucic has only missed 2 games. Those were due to the suspension he received after he punched Zadorov in the face after a dirty hit on Czarnik in his first game as a Flame Kole Sherwood in the face.
The Oilers have played 116 games since the trade. Neal has missed 42 games -- 16 due to injury, 5 due to COVID, and 4 for undisclosed reasons. The rest, he was presumably a healthy scratch.

Reason: I got the wrong face-punching incident for which he was suspended

Yes, but according to the Edmonton Pravda, the fact Neal can clear waivers and be sent to the taxi squad means that they won the deal.

Accounting for stats only after November 2019 would be pretty telling.
Neal hasn't been remotely useful since then.

James Neal 50 GP + 17 healthy scratches = 67Games 10G 23Pts — $5.75 m + $0.75 m (retained from Lucic) = $6.5 m until 2023
Milan Lucic 92 Games 18G 39Pts — $6.0 m - $0.75 m (retained by Edmonton) = $5.25 m until 2023
Edmonton is no good.
