Pretty weird that they made it to the day of the reveal before deciding to delay it...

Anyway, we'll see in or around March 20th I guess?

Not sure if that decision was made today, I may know a little but can't post it here. WestJet never actually confirmed today either, all we had to go on was that screenshot that did indicate "Coming February 28", so obviously something changed between February 20th and today.

From what I understand they were planning on revealing the new Dreamliner interior and exterior but the interior isn't ready for the reveal so they postponed.

WestJet CEO Gregg Saretsky retires "effective today":

http://business.financialpost.com/tr...ced-by-ed-sims

Pretty abrupt and out of nowhere. Being replaced by Ed Sims, who is WestJet Executive Vice-President Commercial.

Or:
1. Union negotiation with pilots not going well? WestJet was also recently ordered to stop how they were negotiating directly with the pilots in order to crew the Swoop division.

2. 763 roll out did not go smoothly

3. Tier 3 agreement with Pacific Coastal (WestJet Link) delayed after much fanfare.

Seems like many new initiatives recently have not been rolled out without some kind of significant issues.

Timing seems abrupt.

It does seem rather abrupt. I would assune that board gave him the option of retiring or being terminated.

Stock is down almost 5% on the news, one would think the board would have considered that impact of a short notice retirement.

Short term pain for long term gain?

This Globe article hints that the omnipresent Clive Beddoe had a hand in this retirement...

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/repo...ticle38247007/

Clive's got a history of keeping his CEO's on a short leash...

KLM's 747-400 'City of Calgary' is on its final flight before being retired, operating Hong Kong - Amsterdam. After this flight she will most likely be flown to Teruel, Spain where a company breaks down aircraft.

He had more than enough leash given on multiple occasions. Even that is an understatement.

Belt loader caught fire next to a WestJet 737, apparently damage to the aircraft is minimal:

GE Aviation flew the new GE9X engine for the first time yesterday, this beast of an engine (134" diameter) will power the Boeing 777X.

Look at the size of that thing!

the GE9X engine will be in the 100,000 pound thrust class and will have the largest front fan at 134 inches in diameter with a composite fan case and 16 fourth generation carbon fiber composite fan blades.

Jeebus, it looks like they just photoshopped it on there. It's big enough to eat an elephant.

Can't stand when people put music over aviation videos.

That video isn't as bad as some but god damn all I want to hear is the engines not some terrible music.
