Those rent boys need to (something that rhymes with 'Duck them shelves')
If he ever really does want to leave, it better be only to Spain.

I could definitely see Nando wanting to leave at some point during the last regime, but now wouldn't really make any sense, unless he's gotten suddenly impatient, and lost hope that the team's going anywhere. I don't see why that would happen now....but for 160-200k quid a week, it's hard to say no.

Thats basically it. The team is just starting to turn around, is in decent position for the moment, might actually be able to hold a mid-table position.

I mean, Chelsea arent exactly the most stable club in the world right now either, they've been in freefall for the better part of a month, surrendering, in spectacular fashion the lead they had built up.

But yeah, its money. I dont know how much he gets right now but to walk away from that kind of cake is tough.

What a roller coaster day. Can't believe the timing of Nando's transfer request.

I'm just gonna hope that they don't sell him yet, and they either wait for the summer or Torres will change his mind. Hopefully he can develop some quick chemistry with Suarez and put together some wins.

I think I read on one of the LFC forums that he's only on 60k /week currently.

No, I think that's way off. It's more like 110k per week.

Unbelievable to me that Torres submitted a transfer request just when the ship is being turned around for the better.

At the start of January it was dire. We still had Roy, the football was pitiful. Kenny is here now, the football is much better, they're up to 7th, and they have shown their ambition by being in the process of signing Suarez.

The timing of his request is strange beyond belief. Torres to do this a mere three days before the deadline stinks, and to the Rent Boys no less. Crap if it was Barca I wouldn't be as bothered but to a plastic club like that makes the blood boil. Hey I even know that united will be with me on this. At least the Mancs, as much as I dislike them, have a proper history and run their club the way it should be run. The same cannot be said for the Russians.

If they bid 50 million they can have him otherwise they can F the hell off.

I'm pretty pissed too. However, brought up by a member of our club who's also of Spanish decent (I don't care if he lives in Texas now, this guy's a lifetime member in this city IMO) was it Fernando or his agent that fielded the request? Would Torres really do that now?

It just makes no sense. How many transfer windows have there been that Liverpool's future looked nothing but !#$%& futile? I mean, Tom Hicks even said that "internet terrosists" were a factor in him not getting a loan from Deutsche Bank in New York. Our club was quite possibly saved there by supporters with help from effing Twitter! The outlook was bleak in every way shape and form. Why would the man who went against what all of his fellow countrymen said (things along the lines of Torres deserving to play for a proper big club, etc.), why would he choose now to go a different course?

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, just a typical sports fan listening to his heart rather than his brain. But I also think I've presented a good amount of logic in this post.

This past August, we were all waiting for that loan deadline, and thought "This is it. Hicks and Gillett are gone! There is no tomorrows!" But that thought had crossed our minds before the last several deadlines, and had only been met with disappointment. The NESV takeover is the most positive thing to happen to this club for many years. I hate baseball a lot. However, when I look at the significance of that particular group taking over, it makes me optimistic. The Boston Red Sox were the franchise that had the presitigous name, but it came with a curse. Of course that was all more or less bullplop, but it was the way people saw things. At the end of the day, we're talking about an extremely marketable franchise that isn't being used to its full potential. Say what you want about the state of things today, but the 2 biggest names in English football are Liverpool FC, and Manchester United (in order of the only way I will ever tolerate typing such a list, best to worst of course). Chelsea, Arsenal, and the rest, can only wish to have that prestige, and the way sports work today, they will likely never be able to achieve that in their existence.

The new owners want to look at the stadium situation, and do what is most ideal. Whether to redevelop Anfield, or to build a new stadium at Stanley Park, the way they handled Fenway makes me optimistic that they will do what's best. As I said, I hate baseball, but the sport has history, and they probably could've gone and crapped on it, but chose not to.

At the end of the day, sure these guys want to make money as much as the next guy. If I had multi-billion dollar profits yearly, I'd buy the Flames, and Liverpool and pump money into each relentlessly to improve them. However, I don't. Neither do most, or all people reading this. However the current group has so far handled everything well. They were even patient with a manager who the fans hated (even though I wished they weren't, but it was likely the right thing to do). Their track record with sports teams (the Red Sox) is exactly what we want to see with our club. They want to make money by making Liverpool FC a more profitable club. The old owners wanted to use debt to buy our club, increase the value, and then eff off promptly at a profit. It's only the definition of justice that they lost money.

Holy rant. At the end of the day, this timing makes no sense from the perspective of Fernando Torres. It does for an agent that brought a striker into a Merseyside club, and also is the agent of a striker at said club who's gotten interest from irresponsible rich owners elsewhere.

Ya, I definitely misread that 60k earlier. I think it is 110.

As for other news, I read an article somewhere lately that actually had a few good explanations for why the timing seems so weird for this late offer from Chelsea and request from Torres.

First, apparently Abramovich has coveted Nando for a while, and obviously made an effort for him this summer. I guess he likes him even more after the last time Liverpool played Chelsea.

Also, he's eligible to join their Champion's League campaign. Not many other top strikers would be able to transfer and play in the CL during this window.

There was also the matter of knowing Torres would be willing to leave, which I think happened later in the window, according to the article I can't find again. So the timing makes sense for Chelsea, but it sure sucks for LFC. Pragmatically, the season is basically a write off for LFC, with no hope of the top 4 really. The only real attainable goal now is to keep a Europa League spot. I just hope he's sold for an extreme amount that will turn into some quality players in the summer.

I think if they offer 50m you guys should be thrilled. He is not worth that

If he played 35ish league games a year he might be. But he is injured way to often to be worth that.

No kidding, he's not worth that at all. However, if the Rent Boys want him that's how much he should cost.

I'd take that deal and run the other way.

Heard on SKY tonight that he could go for £40 million plus Anelka.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...torres?cc=5901
It is now a straight £50 million deal to include Anelka, take it or leave it, according to ESPNsoccernet sources at both Liverpool and Chelsea.
Whether that is £40 million plus Anelka valued at £10 million has not been confirmed by either club and there are many imponderables as the transfer window edges to its 11pm GMT close on Monday night with potentially the biggest and most spectacular deal in the balance.

Roman Abramovich's latest offer was well short of the £50 million mark, with a bid of £35 million in cash plus Daniel Sturridge, taking the total package to £40 million - and there is, as yet, no sign that the Blues' owner will meet Liverpool's demands.

The club then spent time reassuring Torres and his representatives that they have been making efforts to recruit players in the January transfer window, but had been rebuffed in their bids for Ashley Young and Charlie Adam, although a renewed bid for Adam is expected on Monday. Villa have made it plain that Young is not for sale unless the price becomes too attractive to turn down.

Yeah I agree with you Jagger and Nuje. Bizarre timing and a real slap in the face.

Then again, those dickheads Rooney and Tevez ended up staying so who knows? If the price really is 50m, I say go for the money.

Liverpool have had an extraordinary £30 million bid for Andy Carroll rejected this morning, Goal.com UK can confirm.

The Merseysiders made the late bid for the Newcastle United striker as they prepare for life without Fernando Torres, who is closing in on a deadline day move to Chelsea.

http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/...r-andy-carroll

Liverpool is trying to keep hold of Fernando Torres and prevent what could be English football's most expensive ever transfer on the final day of Europe's January transfer window.
British newspapers say that Chelsea is prepared to pay 50 million pounds ($79.5 million) for the Spain striker.
Liverpool expects to complete the signing of Uruguay forward Luis Suarez from Ajax on Monday and could be one of the busiest clubs in the market. The club has also been linked with Newcastle's Andy Carroll and Bayern Munich's Mario Gomez.

Liverpool has already been busy.
Suarez passed a medical examination and is on course to complete his €26.5 million ($36 million) transfer, while Liverpool has allowed defender Paul Konchesky to join second-tier Nottingham Forest on loan. Daniel Ayala has been loaned to Derby by the Reds.

SKY is reporting that the bid for Andy Carroll has been upped to £35 million.

Also many rumours flying that Liverpool has accepted £50 for Torres.

Lots of reports coming in out now that the $35 million bid for Carroll has been accepted. If that is the case I would guess that Torres is on his way out of Liverpool.

To me that is a lot of money for Carroll, he is a good player but $35 million is a lot of money for a player with a season and a half of good results.

I don't think Carroll will go but I'll understand if he does. Unfortunately I imagine that money would go right to Ashley and not into the club.

I dont want Carroll honestly, but it would be great business from Newcastle's perspective. You're in the same position as Liverpool at the beginning of the season, you know the owner is going to take the cash rather than re-invest it or allow the manager to use it.

But £30M for Caroll would be a huge steal for Newcastle, and, in my opinion, a massive ripoff for Liverpool.

Seeing Torres in Blue just might make me puke.
