So will we see two dozen Apple lawsuits against RIM in 2013?
BBM voice is a great feature.
I would like to see how well Android apps are running on BB10 now as well.
I also heard there was the ability to create different profiles...so you could have one for work and one for personal. When the weekend comes you flip over to the personal profile and you don't see your work calendar, emails, phone calls etc. Work stays at work.
I do hope they succeed. Apple and Samsung need competition.

Not ground breaking, but ground breaking doesn't actually happen that often (and really how many ways can you package up a 4"ish screen?).
I don't think RIM needs ground breaking, they just need competitive and current (though maybe it's too late for even that in the consumer market anyway), if they'd just done that for the past 3 years they wouldn't be where they are.
Maybe I'll get one just to blow everyone's mind, all my friends/family have iPhones now.
EDIT: Different profiles would be awesome, I think the newest Android has this, iOS needs it desperately, 3-4 people using the same device, only one can use it for email. Fail.

They'd really have to do something unique and better to make even a small dent in the consumer space. That video made it look like a second tier android device. I can't see how that would sell.
They're only hope as a company is keeping relevant in the corporate space, and the biggest obstacle to that is convincing everyone they are going to stick around. I know my organization is giving up on them due to the fear of them becoming unviable, and we are traditionally pretty slow to adjust to these kind of things. Add to that the complication of having a new bes or bds or whatever to support bb10 that won't support older versions, and I'd have to think most companies will say why bother with a new bb infrastructure that we don't even know will survive, and see that as an opportunity to go in a different direction.
I have a hard time imagining a way rim survives into 2014.

RIM isn't so hard off that they need a blockbuster phone to survive. They just need something that makes people think that it isn't immediately worse than every iPhone or Android device on the market.
They won't be breaking sales records, but I am sure they don't need to.

from that video BB10 looks like Android did 3 or 4 years ago. it has been in development for far too long to look that plain

So you're saying it looks like Android from today?

Even better is if they would do free calls over 3G data for all users.

I agree. Somehow I don't think that would endear them to Rogers, Telus and their pals though! I'm sure that's why this was left to wifi.

Man, I really hope they pull this off. RIM still makes easily some of the most beautiful phones on the market, I loved owning a Blackberry, the Nexus 4 is currently the nicest looking phone out there but still nothing has come close to something like the Blackberry Bold, or most Blackberrys.

Today at a meeting away from the main Consumer Electronics Show floor, RIM gave us a look at the latest build of BB10 to show off all the newest features.
The version we saw isn’t the final one that you’ll get to use in a few weeks, but RIM tells us it’s very close.

The gestures/swiping looks to be very similar to the playbook, which is awesome (the gestures...not trying to start anything else here!). I have a Nexus 7 now, but the swiping is something I miss from the playbook. Its so intuitive and on a phone it would be awesome. I have been waiting to see what to replace my phone with, but more and more the Blackberry is winning me over.
That camera is so cool! Just the idea is brilliant, but its all in tyhe execution I suppose.

I hope they do well, but the Ubuntu OS, as much of a work in progress as it is, is more exciting to me at this point because of potential.

Tried it with my buddy in South Africa over the weekend and sucked.
Might be his wifi (TIA).
We are gonna give it another go and see what happens.

I also thought that this would be the release/retailing date. I guess I misunderstood.

For $799, it better include a BJ.
Not a good strategy for getting people to re-adopt, unless the contract price is extremely reasonable.
