All to retain a late first in a shallow draft for talent.

That player will be fringe at best. Good job, Brado.

Vegas did this to themselves. They just needed to beat Anaheim. Penny wise and pound foolish.

Honestly speaking, I doubt Tanev or Hanifin would have helped Toronto beat Boston and Florida.

Late 1st is still a 1st. I'd hate to trade that for a rental only to get blown out in the 2nd round (see CGY vs EDM)

I know it's fashionable to #### all over Brad right now but maybe he's actually learning from his mistakes here.

Are you kidding? You don't think they could have been one goal better with Tanev? I bet they wish he was on the ice in OT game 7
He also has no D for next year, he could have extended Tanev. The Leafs aren't a rebuilding team, they should be going for it every season...if not now when? By the time a late first is playing the Leafs aren't contenders.

He would help for sure. Does he make TOR favorites in the east though? And at the end of the day, is trading a late first for one playoff round win just to be blown out in round 2 worth it?

Was it worth it for the Flames a few years ago?

That's all I was getting at.

Maybe they don’t get blown out in the second round with Tanev. Who knows what would have happened but it was pretty obvious the Leafs defense and goaltending was bottom end of the contenders and Tre did nothing to address it.

Tanev probably gets them to a lengthy series (like 6 games) with Florida.

Which is still better than going out to Boston in round 1 for the umpteenth time.

He really doesn't give Dallas much credit... that's a hell of a team.

Some spicy takes in that post game presser. The brothers are alike in their honesty.

And maybe he addresses the defense and goaltending in the summer. Maybe he trades for someone with term, or someone younger.

All Tre has said over and over again in Toronto was that he wasn't giving up his 1sts and top prospects for rentals and short term solutions. I don't really see a problem with that.

Again, if all Tanev gets you is to Game 6 of the second round, I'd probably just keep the 1st. There are more problems in TO than just getting Tanev. I'd start by breaking up the top 4 forwards on mega contracts and spreading out the depth, something they can address this summer.

I thought Hertl was a giant bag of Schat in this series. Hopefully he's too healthy to be put on LTIR in the 25-26 season and his play follows this trajectory.

Vegas may have made one too many moves, and to the Flames' benefit.

He just gave half of the top 4 forwards on mega contracts more money and more years. Not saying that was a bad choice, but he didn't do anything about it.

He has one top prospect (Cowan) and four total picks in the Top 4 rounds over the next 3 drafts. Their time to cash in and go for it was this year. I doubt you see their top players have seasons like this again.
