He doesn’t if he can match Tanev’s defensive skill.

Although I don’t recall Tanev being ranked very high when he started.

It’s at least another bullet in the chamber. Something we’ve lacked in the past.

Tanev played in a far inferior junior league.

Whether it was going to be a late first rounder or a 2nd and 3rd doesn't make a big difference. You still have to hit with the picks or they are worthless.

Grushnikov is on 960 now. He’s shocked and excited.

It was between last year and this year for me. He was perfectly serviceable last year considering how nuts Sutter was, and the loss of those 2 players, and he helped Toffoli and others like Ruzicka produce, while reaching a "meets expectations" 64 points of his own. Whatever happened this year I don't know, he seems to have fallen off hard. Per a Kent Wilson tweet he is analytically Vancouver's worst forward right now.

Glad he went to a team with some decency. Makes it easier to cheer them into the final. 3rd conditional doesn’t hurt either!

Go Tanev. Loved having that guy here and he’s going to a great team

Also good thing points aren't necessary criteria for pure defensive d-men.

I'm a big fan of NHLe and Bader's model...but it will never profile defensive d-men well.

His points aren't that different than guys like Pelech, Manson, Cernak, etc at the same age.

But in order to make the NHL like those guys did with low production you need to be elite defensively, like Chris Tanev elite defensively, and like the guys above.

So if he can become an elite defender then he has a chance to be an NHLer, if he's a good defender, he's likely still not an NHLer since he won't be well rounded enough.

How pissed must Treliving be right now? It’s almost a middle finger. Unless this prospect was a deal winner for Conroy.

His point totals seem to track Gustav Forsling’s as well. Another dman who was a great skater but did not create much offence.

I don't have Baders cards for Manson or Cernak or Pelech, but it looks like he's profiling like Jake Boltmann rather than any of those guys. He's definitely a tier below.

We'll know soon enough what he offered.

Leafs didn't have a 2nd.

So unless they were offering their 1st (which they were rumored to not offer) then they just didn't have the picks to make a trade

Love it.

Conroy sticking to the plan. Still hasn't traded away a single draft pick and has now added 6 draft picks (7 if the Stars make the finals).

Don't know much about Grushniov, but sounds like a better version of Kuznetzov/Solovyov maybe? Either way it's nice to keep adding to the D prospect pool.

For all we know Treliving only offered a future 2nd, or possibly not even that.

Was hoping for more, but didn't expect more than this.

Good trade.

Hopefully one more defenseman off the market increases the demand for Hanifin as well.

Sounds like they scouted him heavily once he was in trade talks.

Not just some random thrown in.
