Rory with an insanely great round of golf.
Just heard on Overdrive that he played with a TP5 Driver that they grabbed out of the pro shop on Wednesday...he liked it so he used it and.....he was absolutely striping it.
He hit one 399 over the trees on 14....then a 7 iron to the green....its a 590 yd par 5.

TP5 is a ball, not a driver. He was using the TP5X previously.

The field this week is a big yikes! Next week only marginally better.
The merge probably needs to happen soon- which I guess is fine provided it is exclusively as the PGA Tour and not some blend- which I wouldn’t be surprised is a big part of the hold up. Im certain the guys coming back are going to show serious rust.

Do you pay any attention to golf, or just follow a few big names?
Aldrich Potgieter is quickly becoming a huge star. Hits the ball further than anyone, great putter and is only 20 years old. 17 yo Blades Brown dropped out of high school to turn pro and is looking at getting a top 10-20 in his second pro tournament. Akshay is also building his star power and is in contention. Lots of intriguing stories to follow.
There have always been mid level fields at various parts of the pga tour and we're in a stretch of just coming off 3 big events, and go back to a couple weeks of 2 of the biggest PGA Tour events.
Sure it would be fun to have Bryson back and maybe one or two others, but they wouldn't be playing this week or next either if they were on tour.

I'm actually starting to enjoy the non signature events more than the signature ones. I like watching the lesser known players grind out there and seeing what they can do. In general, on these weeks it also feels like the coverage is a balanced a bit better. There are some guys that I definitely miss but I don't enjoy watching a lot of Scheffler or McIlroy coverage.

I dunno.
If there was ever a no-name event....its this week. This one isn't even mid-level IMO. Its essentially the Korn Ferry Tour on the PGA.
There are always going to be good stories with the amount of guys playing these days, but im watching the golf channel right now and they are trying reallly hard to generate a narrative to make up for the lack of star power in todays coverage.
Gonna guess the ratings for this will be amongst the worst of the year.
Yeah it's not a big name field this week, but at least the guys playing want to compete and win.
LIV is all all about playing fewer events and guaranteed money. I'd much rather watch this than some bigger names past their prime with nothing at stake, playing in a format designed to get them back home as quickly as possible.

Ratings will beat any LIV event. Guys like Bhatia and Potgieter do have a bit of a following among golf fans, but I agree it won't generate casual fan interest. Isn't that OK to have some tournaments like that every year? Would we prefer the Tour just not play this week?

I didnt say anything about LIV. Never watched one second of it.
It may be better that they dont play every week actually, which would allow the KFT to have the spotlight.
Just making an observation...no need to get bent out of shape.

I'm really not too bent out of shape. I didn't understand your angle on ratings and don't see how showing a KFT tournament would help that. That fied would be way weaker than this one.
Since the PGA tour really only has about 8 months of real golf on their schedule, I like these tournaments mixed in.
Tiger has ruptured his left achilles. Pretty sure that means he wont be playing any tournament this year, no?
All but certain now that 2019 Masters was his last great triumph. He needs to call it and just do the post-playing career, similar to Brady- in as much as his personality will allow him.

I'm happy he had the career he had, cause I cannot imagine how broken psychologically he'd be right now if he destroyed his body to have a career more akin to Jordan Spieth.

Third round has definitely been very interesting. Lots of fun to watch. Guys have been moving up and down all day with some exceptional shots and some brutal shots.
