If you traded Hanifin for a 7th round pick and you drafted a superstar with the pick that's still poor value. You salvaged the trade but the value of the pick is the value of the pick.

So best to bitch that he won’t do it, as opposed to wait and see if he does right?

Having all the retention spots available when the deadline nears is a very good idea. It creates so much flexibility.
The return today may not be optimal, but it is possibly the long game that wins this deal.

The trade likely would have been received much better if the 3rd wasn't three drafts away. If you're waiting three years there should be a premium. At least a 2nd. I have a hard time believing a contender wouldn't have given up a 3rd in next years draft at the deadline.

Well, this just feels like the exact opposite of that.

As much as I like Brian Burke, that was always a huge crock of ****. Cammy was going to be gone anyway, take the third rounder. Naw, we feel he's worth more than that so we choose to lose him for nothing. Haha WTF?

The contenders are all pretty much capped out. Most of them are into LTIR space and not banking any cap room. You'd still be looking at using up a retention slot, or taking back a bad contract.

What's funny is I'd argue the Flames look like less of a fire drill defensively tonight without Z back there going rogue.
I'll still miss the hits and the locker room quotes, but probably not so much the quality of defense.
I think reactions are way overblown.

Then take back some salary. I can't even remember the last time I saw the main piece of a trade be 3 years away. Conroy again has made the team weaker for the now while doing very minimal for the future.

Just crap...
I'm at my all time low as a fan. I've been a die hard since the early 80's and I just can't think of a worse version of management/team.
And possibly helping the Canucks

Trading with a rival shpuld be a premium. Taking a pick 3 years down the road should be a premium. Conroy definitely got taken advantage of.

Zadorov is not the reason the Canucks go far. If they do it will be by the merit of Pettersson, Q Hughes, and Demko.

Good to see we're keeping our reactions in check over a trade of a bottom pairing D.
Are you even watching this game? Times have been worse, buddy.

Over trading a 5th D? That's all it takes to be an all time low?

Flames media is sure trying their best to declare a good trade for us. But that's also their job.

To me it is a trade that has to have a followup to be any good. I'm still in the wait and see mode with Conroy. He isn't inspiring me so far but there are a lot of pieces in play. Dang I hope he has it in him to make some great deals or we are so screwed.
