What a mess.
Gm is weighing his options on leaving. While I think it’s time for him and flames to part , it’s not a good look on the organization. Only 32 gm jobs in league and he might not consider Calgary worth it? Has to be somewhat eye opening for other reputable gm candidates.
Our 2 best centers want out. It would have been hard to replace one , but 2 is near impossible. If it starts a rebuild then that’s fine. I have my doubts ownership changes their mandate.
Hubby admits he was piss poor. The concerning part is him telling the press that he might have to change his style of play. Flames sign an elite winger to a big contract and that player has to change his game because of the coach? Seems odd to me that flames now have a $10.5 million experiment because of Sutter.
The one I want to leave the most is Sutter. Think his systems are out dated and boring. That said he probably has the most chance at staying because of his contract kicking in.

I can't imagine a single GM worth his salt wanting anything to do with this organization.

It appears to me that there are at least a couple individuals in the media that are butthurt and pouting, trying to stir up crap that isn’t there because they’ve been shut down to a degree.

Its crazy, personnel changes have not already been made

Lose Lindy, make a play for Nylander? Or maybe Reinhart or Guentzel? Chandler Stephenson is an interesting pending UFA as well.

Season was the worst possible finish. No playoffs and drafting 16th.
We need some good news.

We pretty much have to try and be a playoff team for the next 3 years or so don’t we? Seeing as we don’t have our 25 1st. I know it’s conditional but not a good time to be rebuilding.
Just so you know Gio I wasn’t saying a rebuild is what you’re suggesting. If Lindholm gets moved we have to try stay competitive.

I don't know of another organization that has had such bad luck organizationally. Bring in a premium coach? Completely flush personel decisions. Gm tries to keep the contention window open? Blows up in his face. Big new replacement winger to replace Gaudreau? Bombs 1st year under new coach and system.
It's like elementary school kids in a high school Chem lab just tinkering blindly with things and creating a noxious gas.
Murphys law should be renamed Murray's law.

It really does appear to be a Flames thing. Seems every time they make a move that is a heralded league-wide, it just doesn't work out. Brent Sutter. Jay Bouwmeeser. Olli Jokinen.
They can't even be related because it spans eras, it's really strange.

Francis definitely sometimes walks that fine line but Valji has seemingly crossed over it. If he doesn't have the trust of the PR team or coaches or players, he won't be given access to coaches or players and then he is basically useless to TSN for Flames coverage (if TSN cares).

that was me actually. i listened in on a twitter space hosted by the In the Dome podcast that he joined and shared what he said. It peaked around 20 listeners

That's what I mean. All those guys are in the same boat as Lindy, but for other teams who may need to move on. So move Lindholm for a return, take on a similar salaried guy who may better fit in medium term. I'm pretty confident they have to move Nylander to fit Matthews next contract. If Matthews stays that is.
another guy might be Schmaltz.

Correct but based on those conditions it’s highly likely it’s the Florida pick that goes

Foolish then. 32 jobs and unless you have multiple offers you get after it. If you're too proud you're probably not doing a good job anyways.

I guess I shouldn't say highly likely as there's all sorts of scenarios including what happens if Florida '25 pick doesn't go to the Flames.
Hard to predict.

How is this only on Sutter though? How about the player himself? All I use to read here for years was Gaudreau and Tkachuk couldn’t deliver the goods in the playoffs. So why does Jonathan get a pass? His story isn’t all that different from Tkachuk and Gaudreau. The skilled type who needs to learn how to play in the playoffs.
It’s not like Darryl has some kind of special unicorn system of hockey that no one has ever seen before. He basically deploys playoff style hockey all season long. Sure, it’s demanding and offense-first players tend to see a drop in their scoring, but at least you know they’ll be prepared for the grinding playoff style when the game changes.
Bill Zito probably saw this and realized that he needed to make big changes. So he decided to turf the coach and trade his franchise player coming off a record setting regular season.

Ya, that’s why tearing it down and rebuilding isn’t a easy decision.
