TSS dominated Valour. Valour looked panicky and rushed off the ball and slow and lethargic on it.
Cavalry don't typically step up in games like these but hopefully this is a different team than 2021 / 2022.

The skill gap is not so large that teams can mail it in.

Just watched the highlights. Holy that Valour back line is horrendous...
But yea, the Rovers won League1 in BC, so the talent gap really isn't that large.
I saw Foothills' League1 team training last night. They'll be a fun team to watch. Very young, with a couple "older" guys, including one that played professionally in Portugal. He's staff with Foothills, otherwise he could likely play with the Cavs. Great player. I'll prolly check out a few of their games as well. I know Jay is hoping to get some support for that club.

Not to mention Polisi is a former PFC/CPL player. Same with his brother Matteo.
I mean we see CPL talent playing in L1 throughout the years. Jordan Brown comes to mind.
It's definitely good vibes for a promotion/relegation system one day.

I think the leagues would have to grow revenue A LOT before this could ever happen. Travel costs just kill everything here.
At the same level/attendance in Europe, you're typically talking regional leagues that just ride trains/buses around.

Promotion and relegation is a pipe dream right now because the teams at the lower level don't have near the amount of money to go up a level. Talent wise it's probably not as bad.
TSS are were moaning about having to pay $35k to host this game, and that was after raising $200k in share offerings last year pretending to be a supporter owned club.

Promotion and relegation won't ever happen. And I'm OK with that. There are loads of reasons why - financial, cultural, geographical, etc.
Maybe in 30 years I'll be proven wrong if we have viable professional 2nd and 3rd tiers. But we barely have a stable first tier (with all due respect to the CPL - they're moving in the right direction, as is our pyramid in general), and I can't really imagine an scenario where there would be enough professional clubs below to make it possible.
Not trying to be a downer. I'd love a healthy top tier of 10-12 teams, and a great amateur and semi-pro feeder system to get players to the CPL and beyond. Canada just doesn't have the population or the culture for multiple tiers of professional soccer. Maybe it will one day, but we're decades away from that.

Couldn't agree more. We have maybe 6 stable CPL clubs right now and an emerging amateur market who aren't able to handle more than a summer league of amateur soccer with bus travel. Nothing in between outside of a couple of clubs who talk big but don't back it up with investment (Electric City and TSS Rovers as examples).
In addition to this, when expansion does happen, the ownership groups are paying expansion fees. This comes with an expectation of level of play. Unless you remove that expansion fee, pro/rel won't happen. The people owning the clubs won't accept it.
The professional game in Canada is copy/pasting the professional game in the US. And that's fine. Because 5 years ago there barely was a professional game in Canada.

I know the scale is different but Forbes figures that all but 10 teams lose money year over year.
Another article I read said that the league continues to grow because the MLS depends on expansion revenue.
Soccer is a passion project in North America.
