Karlsson is hurt for 6 weeks..
Is this brewing a perfect storm for them to snag Eichel?
Man I hate that team with a passion.

It doesn’t help.
Unless Eichel is going onto LTIR for the remainder of the season.

Of course Weekes thinks they are still in on Eichel. The tweet that started this thread was him suggesting the Flames were one of 2 potential destinations. Wtf?

All the injuries might allow Vegas to acquire eichel without sending back salary. They could then make other trades with other partners as the season goes along to make room for eichel if he is back before the playoffs. The injuries (at least the ones that go on to LTIR) might allow them the flexibility to not focus on the cap at least in the direct trade with Buffalo.

From the Buffalo side, they need to add significant salary to stay cap compliant, I think it’s somewhere around $5M needs to go back to Buffalo for them stay above the floor.
Putting players on LTIR is fine, yeah - but even just messing around with their roster today - when they get everyone off LTIR they’re $1.2M over the cap, and because they are in LTIR they aren’t accumulating cap on the daily. This deal would be complicated as hell for Vegas UNLESS they were going to put someone (or more than one) on LTIR with the intention of leaving them their until the end of the season. If they were to put someone on LTIR just to buy time so they could make other deals, they’d lose all bargaining power in the trade(s) to follow because everyone in the league would know Vegas needs to dump to be compliant. The easiest way for Vegas to do it is dollars in/dollars out, but given how hurt they are, doing dollars in/dollars out is likely to have a significant negative impact on the fortunes of this season.
From the Flames side, it’s a simple situation. About $9M has to go out to bring in Jack’s $10M. Flames aren’t using LTIR, and are accumulating cap daily - meaning the longer this goes, the easier it becomes as well.
…at the end of the day, Vegas is clever enough that they may figure it out. Hopefully Treliving puts together a simple package loaded with futures that entices Buffalo to go with it.

Buffalo needs cap just to stay above the floor, no?

Either way it goes, Vegas needed to piss off from the beginning. All their injuries made them even possible to be in this conversation or perhaps it'd be done already.
But thinking more level-headedly (not sure it's a word), I'm not sure it makes sense for them? If they trade for him, it's because of their injuries but these injuries also make it a possibility that they are in lottery range for picks and I'm sure Buffalo wants that pick. Even if he comes back before the end of the season, it's risky and if he doesn't, they likely lose a decent pick, and whatever they have to get rid of for next year to be cap compliant. Am I crazy for thinking that?

Given that there was a story that the Vegas brass were getting some anxiety over continuing to mortgage the future, if they think there’s a good chances the injuries cause them to miss the POs, they may well not want to give up a lottery chance.
