I really enjoyed the audio book. The narrator/narration made me feel like I was getting a history lesson in Oldtown.
Made for a fun couple of days where every one had to suffer listening to a old frail guy's voice describing death and destruction in a nonchalant manner.
It got taken down, but a Youtube channel used AI to narrate Warhammer 40k lore in David Attenborough's voice. The voice was spot on and the tone and inflexion was exactly like the "Planet Earth" series. I don't really care for Warhammer at all, but this was amazing.
Since the first run, I've read the book and binged on the Targaryen lore.
Going back with more familiarity has made the rewatch immensely enjoyable. What an excellent season of television that was. Seeing the foreshadowing of tensions in the earlier episodes is cool. A lot went over my head the first time around. I shouldn't have done it this far ahead of season 2 though, the anticipation is going to be killer.

There is definitely an extra layer of fun if you've read Fire and Blood and seeing which of the 3 accounts noted in the book the show will mix or blend etc.

Well sure it does. Martin is making truckloads from his completed works, probably far more than anything he made from the actual books, you gotta think that's affecting his motivation.

I suspect there's going to be a few fun curveballs along the way with what ends up being the "true" accounting of events.
i.e. twins duel, the gods eye, among so many others.

I realized last night that I could have used a really good recap of season one prior to watching as it took a while for everything to start coming back to me. Not bad of an episode to open up the season.

I never even tried watching this show, but was a big fan of Game of Thrones. Worth watching?
It’s all the ruthless politics of GoT, but none of the other stuff (adventure stories, heroic quests, redemption arcs). There are few sympathetic characters. And it periodically jumps ahead 5 or 10 years.
Whether it’s worth watching depends on how you feel about those things. The production values and acting are still top-notch. And while the writing isn’t as good as the first couple seasons of GoT, it isn’t as bad as the last three.

Thanks! I think I'll start then with the first season.

If you liked the politics and jostling for the throne that dominated the first half of GOT before the mystical aspects took over, then yeah it's great.
Just be prepared for the amount of pale blond characters dipping in a small genetic pool and dragons.
I feel like this show is being underrated, the story is great. This feels like GoT seasons 1-4 to me, maybe a little smaller world though.
But yesterday’s episode was a great start to season 2.
Spoiler!
Can’t imagine Aemond is going to have a happy ending here…
It took me a few episodes of season 1 to get into this. The acting was mixed at first and the characters initially seemed uninteresting. I found the show really did a great job of building up though. Really liking it right now.
The story is definitely a smaller world. It's likely only a 4ish season show, and should have a much tidier resolved ending than GoT. It obviously helps that Martin has already written who survives and who doesn't.
This show starts off about 200 years before the GoT. I guess they could keep stretching it out...I guess we've still got 8 generations before we get to Daenarys? They'd have to do a lot of recasting along the way though, so I doubt we go there.
