Pretty sure he already defended himself and did just fine so you’re right on that. It was a ridiculous angle to bring his journalism into question though so don’t be shocked by the responses.

And people are free to step up and have the back of one of the nicest posters on the board. Don’t like it, find something else to read.

Honestly don't know what else Kylington can do to make the team.

Makes the Gudbranson signing sting even more. If Gudbranson makes the team ahead of Kylington then will send a clear message to Flames prospects.

I still have my fingers crossed for a Hamonic retirement, and a Canuck panic buy of Gudbranson.

Even with the risks of fighting it’s the thing Gudbranson does out there that gives me the least anxiety to watch. The guy is good at it

I hope they start trying Valimaki/Zadorov as the third pair with how good OK has looked with Tanev. Both guys have played the right side before and styles should compliment each other

One can only hope. Would even be fine with 50% retention.

I know this has been talked about a lot but would love to know how that signing happened.

I remember watching Bruins management talking about guys in one of those all access T.V shows and I would love to listen into the conversation that happened when the Flames decided to sign a player who should be on a PTO to a $2 million dollar contract.

Who sat on that table. They should all be gone.

1. Hanifin
2. Andersson
3. Tanev
4. Zadorov
5. Valimaki
6. Gudbranson

So despite Kylington or Mackey both looking good, there is a chance neither make the opening day roster.

Good problem to have I guess.
That's my guess, neither Kylington and Mackey will make the opening roster. Michael Stone will be the the 7th dman

If an injury occurs Mackey is 8th and Kylington is likely 9th in terms of depth.

No one else noticed that it was Macewan that bummed Marky at the start of the game? This was Badbransons real reason for retribution, obviously.

I think it's still wide open for the #6 and 7 spots

Top 3: Hanifin, Tanev and Andersson

Bottom 3: Zadorov, Valimaki

Any one of the other 4 could get the 6th spot, however, I think Mackey is unlikely because he can be sent to Stockton and he needs ice-time

Stone is a perfect #7 because you can move him in and out of the lineup without it hurting his play.

So it really comes down to Kylington, and his offensive, skating game, which they really need, or Gudbranson, with his really physical game, which they really want.

I wouldn't be surprised if they run with 8 D, at least for a while.

With salary cap space so valuable, I can not see the Flames carrying 8 dman

During the intermission, Gudbranson was interviewed. He said during free agency Sutter called him.

There is no way he is getting cut in my opinion.

I know we're 26 pages in, but can we talk about how decent Walker Duehr has looked?

Big RWer who seemed to be getting chances every shift. Wouldn't mind seeing him on the fourth line to start the season, maybe play him alongside Lucic.

I've been impressed.

The cap makes no difference. They either carry an 8th defenseman (Kylington $750K) or they carry a 14th forward (Froese $725K, Duehr $825k, Gawdin $750k)

It's the same cap hit no matter what they do.

the only move that impacts the cap hit is to send Gudbranson down, and then they save $1M, or $1.1M or whatever it is.

To your point of not sending Gudbranson down though, I agree - it seems unlikely. And they probably don't want to send Stone down either.

Which leaves Kylington. But they could well lose him to waivers if they do, so they probably don't want to do that either.

Which is why I think going with 8 is a possibility.

However, my money (as of today), is Kylington stays, and they send Stone and Mackey down, and go with 7.

Lots of pre-season left though.

He has been waived several times, I doubt he is claimed

Kylington is to inconsistent, its his defensive side of the game that is the concern.

My guess he is waived, clears and starts the season at the AHL level

I have felt Lucic would be best utilised in a line with a rookie or 2. Will help with their game and invigorate him as well.

Also wondering if we're over thinking the Gudbrandon signing and he has a few players in his sights (McDavid, etc)

I imagine it went something like this:

Treliving: "Hey Steve, what are your thoughts on Gudbranson?"
Pleau: "Durr durr durr"
Treliving: "I'm sold. That's why we promoted you. Should I offer more than twice what he's asking?"
Pleau: "Durr!"
Treliving: "Great. I'll call his agent now."

Edit: Fixed for accuracy.

Yeah, far too inconsistent. We want good players or bad players, no in between!

We consistently need giveaways worse than his. Gudbranson and Zadarov must be on the roster ahead of him because they're consistently bad.
