Lebron also can't really speak to the Chinese experience, but he can certainly speak to the experience of being Black in the USA, which is why this is something that is important to him.

This is the most comprehensive rundown of the past 2 days that I’ve seen. Chris Haynes is definitely the most plugged-in and trusted reporter with NBA players (Woj and Shams get their info from agents and team execs).

Unrelated to the topic, but athletes and celebrities can make big $ on social media now.

Well, along similar lines, you and I can't speak to the experience of being a black man in the United States, but I gather we're still expected to give a #### about their problems, so I'm not sure this is a very good excuse.

Exactly.
Which is why I don't get why so many are quick to excuse him for it.
Me and you speaking out about genocide in China won't change anything.
Lebron telling China, Nike & the NBA to pound sand because of what is going on what rattle some chains.
But he isn't, because money is more important than genocide.

But why are people putting that on Lebron? Why is it his job to talk about China?
Why doesn’t Adam Silver denounce what’s going on in China, or how about Phil Knight for Nike?
Lebron is talking about his personal experience and what a black man in America has to deal with. And IMO that’s fair for him to do. He has to deal with that everyday of his life. He has no obligation to talk about what’s going on in China, in order to be able to have a viewpoint and opinion on what’s going on in America right now.
And honestly the fact that people try to bring that up to undermine what Lebron and the other athletes are saying about the situation in the US right now is a bit racist in itself.

Actually Jeremy Lin yucking it up and taking money from China bothers me much more.

Is he though? I recently read an article where he was a bit upset about getting hacked mercilessly as he's a prime target given his name.
Everybody has skeletons in their closet in some way or another, so I'm not going to call Lebron a complete hypocrite over his messaging (it did bother me at the time because it really appeared he cared about his business dealings). If you look at anyone under a microscope you'll find things to be pissed about, and Lebron being a public figure is no different. I think he's a great player, and I'm generally not a fan of him the teammate and some of the ways he conducts himself. Having said that, he has done a lot of good in the communities he's been involved with, through opening schools and other things, and that you can't take away from him. Why does anyone do anything? Is it for money? Is it for ego? Debatable. Personally I really like humble people who don't need the Instagram or Linkedin self pat on the back writeup/camera opp, but that's just me. Everyone has their own way of doing things. There are a lot of good points here by a lot of people, and I hope everyone can respect the viewpoints without going into personal bitter diatribes.
My personal view keeps shifting about a lot of this stuff. Some of it could be controversial in the sense that I don't think the players approached this well. In light of girlysports' article, it appeared to be a ####show behind the scenes and not calculated at all by the players, with more reactionary than purposeful. Some of it seemed childish and disrespectful too. In my mind they've done well by coming back to the table and telling the owners to be more supportive of the community that supports them and they take from.

Big scarf energy hitting two 3s in a row to try and wake the rest of his team up. Bad start so far.

Down 16 after the first quarter. So far they're just not playing smart. There's energy, but nobody is playing conscious of their teammates - lots of solo play. I'd venture to guess the game is done against Boston being this behind, but we'll see after the second quarter.

Frustrating game. Still 19 down, now in the 3rd quarter. Raps have had their chances but have shot terribly.

I know that Boston is a strong defensive team and it will tough for Toronto to get points from in close but they will have to figure out how to get to the rim if the three pointers aren't falling.

Help, save, whatever.
|
I turned it off after the 1st quarter. I could tell it was one of those games that would be called "closely" meaning Raps touch anyone and a foul is called. Of course if they hit their shots it's still a close game so the lose is on them but just consider it a "scheduled loss" and hope the refs aren't so whistlehappy next game.
