Yes...and dismissed it as "NHL knows best - can't overturn the calls against the Flames without conclusive evidence...btw Elliott do you have updated stats on Connor."

Last night it was active campaigning on behalf of the oilers..."there were 3 decisions that oiler fans won't be happy about. Goalie interference, offside, and icing. NHL needs to fix those." Nauseating, especially when it is pointed out to #ronremembers that the first was coincidental contact with the foot outside the crease, the offside sure didn't look offside, and the icing was the far side linesman's call because the player did not go directly to the puck. Ron ignores them all. Maybe he should ask Gary in his next little chat.

I actually thought it was going to be an icing call on the play, and was already reaching for my phone to answer a text. Luckily, I realized they were taking too long to call it or I would have missed that glorious ending.

The fact that the play looked like it was going to be blown dead just makes the ending so much sweeter. I wish there was a gif of it that I could watch on repeat during my morning coffee...

Ron has always been an Oilers fanboy -
From the 1989 postgame wrapup as the Flames won the Stanley Cup and Ron told Don something like "as the '80's wind down we should look back and thank the Oilers (and Islanders) for their wonderful accomplishments..." (Cherry gave him a look of contempt).
To the "They're building something special up there" - repeated ad nauseum over the last 10 years.
To (after winning the McDiver lottery) "It's just a matter of 'When do they win the Stanley Cup'"
To the present embarrassing display of fandom.

I'm feeling really dirty with the amount of amusement I'm getting watching Kesler being Kesler to the McDavid line this series. Can the Ducks please close this out in two more games so I can go back to hating them? This feels unnatural

It saddens me that I catch watch this. I sat through and watched games one and two and the the Oilers won both. I started watching game 3 when it was 3-0 Ducks. I decided that I couldn't watch the third and when I woke up in the morning was pleasantly surprised the ducks scored 3 in the third.

Last night I turned the game off after the first period and missed the 3 goal out burst by the Ducks in the second. I started watching the 3rd and my wife said I was bad luck and I should not watch. I listened until the final minutes of the third. I called it a night and was again pleasantly surprised this morning.

It really pains me that I have only seen the "pro Oiler" moments this series and have missed all that parts that would bring me joy. I hate the NHL this year.

I feel like a kid stuck in his room on the perfect weekend summer day and all he can hear all the joy and excitement of the outside world.

I don't mind Maclean but I do remember him trying to talk about the Oilers as the Flames were hoisting the Cup. Cherry shut him down, saying this was the Flames moment and nothing to do with Oilers.

Pisses me off looking back on it now.

After this revelation about the Oilers comment in '89, ibe decided that Ron Maclean is a piece of trash and will now have my utter contempt so long as he shall live.

I've never thought much of him, the best part of the year is the annual interview with Bettman who carves him like a not particularly smart turkey like its tradition.

I agree. But there was also a lot of this back then when the Flames became good (like in their first cup run in 86). A bunch of media guys always had to mention how Calgary "had" to get good to compete with the Oilers. It was aggravating.

Don't forget his half Oilers, half Riders jersey abomination he wore during a Hometown Hockey segment a few years ago. My eyes still haven't fully recovered from that

Maclean can go and he can take Cherry with him. They are both about 10 years past their best before date.

don't look now but it's happening again. I can't remember where I heard or read it, but the claim is now that the Oilers are a burgeoning powerhouse again, it will be that extra push for the Flames to match their level, just like they had to in the old days.

This is, literally, my favourite sandwich ever. It's counter intuitive but anyone I've convinced to try it has been converted. I challenge you to go home tonight and do the same. I'll await your feedback.

Interesting stat.

Over the last 5 playoffs years with minimum 40 games played:

Ryan Getzlaf has the most points per game by a fair margin. 1.18 PPG

Malkin is second with 1.01 PPG

Over the last 10 playoff years with minimum 80 games played:

Crosby is first with 1.12 per game

Getzlaf is second with 1.09 per game.

Pretty sure none of the Oilers meet the minimum games requirement.
