I have no doubt Gelinas will sit down with him today and go over some video of his play last night and we see engaged and smart Johnny tomorrow.

He looked petrified in the first period. Wasn't getting anywhere near the scrums, turning over the puck, and hanging out at the perimeter. Got a little better as the game went on.
All of that is basically the Ducks reaping their year long harvest: target guys on the team incessantly until they get worried about you. Seems to have worked with Johnny, and the last two games you can see Kesler work on Monahan full-time.
Hate to dump on Brouwer / Bouma more, but they're the ones on our team that should have been working on players like Perry and Rakell all year (I've lobbied for Hathaway but we're stuck with Bouma). I actually thought Brouwer was semi-decent last night, but he can't bring us what we need when his play level has dropped him to the 4th line. We need him scrapping full-time with Perry and Getzlaf, not trying to out-muscle Nate Thompson.

Haynes saying Ferland never played in last 9 minutes? Brouwer bumped to top line. Terrible instincts by GG on that.

Glen Gulutzan is a ok coach, I don't think he will lead us to the promise land.

Really?
that's a shockingly bad move by GG then... Ferly was one of the few guys actually generating any chances....
bad, bad decision there

I've always hated how players coast to the bench, the slower you are to the bench the more time the other team has to take advantage of a player being out of position. Bennett couldn't of gotten to the bench any slower, I have no idea what he and everyone on the ice was thinking. Such a terrible mistake and not one player on the ice realized that they were about to get ####ed. That's the most worrying thing about that play, low IQ play by all 5 of the guys on the ice. Bartkowski was getting bullied all night as well

I was screaming at the TV when I saw Brouwer on the 5 on 3. The quicker this organazition realizes he's completely useless the quicker they can move on and play players who actually will play with some sort of effort. I struggle to see how Jankowski/Hathaway wouldn't be upgrades over Brouwer and Bouma. You want to win this series? Play the players that actually will make an impact.

Brouwer had nothing to do with our inability to even enter the zone on a 5 on 3 PP at the end. That's all on the players who's role it is to bring the puck in, and on our PP that's Brodie and Johnny.

Fun fact: the final score in the Flames' 1st game of the 2004 playoffs was 5-3 for Vancouver.

Really want to see Jankowski up here and PLAYING, when does Stockton's season end? Went to see it and it says the Heat have played 66 games(as of today), so they have 10 left and can make the make the playoffs.

The Heat have two games left and can clinch playoffs with a point tonight.

Stockton has 2 games left...and will likely make the playoffs. MJ is a huge part of that team. If they get a point tonight i believe they clinch.
This is not the time to introduce Jankowski to the line up in Calgary....who does he displace at C, since that is what he has been developed as?

Stockton has 2 more games to play and if they win tonight they are in the playoffs. I would very much like to see Janko on the Flames because he gives the Flames a better chance at winning the series. He's already better than the entire 4th line. He would make a difference. I could care less about what Stockton does in the playoffs if it means Janko is helping the flames win playoff games , he's ready to make a difference now wether if that's on the wing or at center. Janko is more skilled and a better player right now than both Brouwer and Bouma, why not play him is beyond me. He's 22 not 18. It's very annoying knowing the team has an impact type player that they are unwilling to use and it's quite odd most people here are asking for Hathaway (which we should) and not Janko. He would make this team better and add more skill on our bottom 2 lines without a doubt. Boston had no problem deploying McAvoy who is 3 years younger, let Janko loose.

So I'm just watching the last 10 minutes here to see what Haynes is talking about.
At roughly 9 minutes Ferland ices the puck, then gulutzan sends out a couple of mixed up lines, sending gaudreau out with backlund and brouwer out with monahan. Then Hamilton takes his bad crosschecking penalty so Ferland isn't going to see much ice there.
So, through 6 of the last 10 minutes Ferland has about a minute or so of icetime, which doesn't seem outrageous considering there was a full 2 minute penalty to kill off.
Then immediately following the PK, bennett and brouwer are on the ice killing the penalty. Brouwer takes the draw (which he wins, the only flame who took more than one draw last night who finished over 50%). Ducks then ice the puck so the Flames come back with Ferland - Monahan - Gaudreau and then the ducks take the penalty after Ferland spends the shift pumping his legs.
So then on the PP the Flames come back with Brouwer with Gaudreau and Monahan, presumably because:
1) That's how the PP is drawn up
2) Ferland was just on the ice pumping his legs on the forecheck
3) Brouwer is basically the only option for a winger faceoff win in the event Monahan is waved off.
After the first minute of the PP the ducks get another penalty so the Flames come back with Monahan - Versteeg - Gaudreau, so once again they go with their two best options plus a rested winger.
The Flames then spend the next 45 seconds with the same set of players on the ice until they pull the goalie and add backlund before MOnahan and Versteeg go off for a change and Frolik and Tkachuk come back on.
For the final 16 seconds the Flames come back with Gaudreau - Monahan - Brouwer, conceivably so that Brouwer can win the draw if need be.
Brouwer does good work on the draw and then does great work going after Kesler and Theodore while Kesler is on the ice.
Basically, there was no room on the ice for Ferland.
