i thought this was a strange decision even before the last 10-12 games...

at this point, it seems like all the moves Tre has done have been solid/good moves...

i think they'd be nuts not to resign him, even if it is a shorter term (say 2 years)

I'd find it pretty surprising if they let Treliving go so quick. I don't think his record is perfect but what GM's is? To me he has done far more right than wrong and his highs are significantly more impactful than his lows.

Burke better not be GM if Tre does not get re-signed.

The intentional mis-wording of this thread title is as disappointing now as it was at the time.

Treliving needs to get re-signed now. I'm pretty sure he's actually a genius.

I must admit, I was skeptical of Tre for keeping Gully as coach this year. I can't complain about any of his trade acquisitions or draft picks. He has done a phenomenal job, and as such, deserves to be back and see this rebuild through.

There is no way Treliving is not re-signed. I don't pretend to know why there is no extension in place as of yet, but I am pretty confident it is a formality at this point.

Brad seems used to deals that are down to the wire. Think we're good here.

The most plausible explanation is usually the correct one.

Flames have been trying to get a hold of Treliving so they can re-sign him, but they always get a busy signal since Treliving talks on the phone too much to the 29 other GMs.

Strange that they will make him work right down to the wire without an extension though. It certainly appears like he should be back but you just never know with the Flames ownership group. The fact that Friedman mentioned that he didn't think just making the playoffs would put him in the clear tells me he has heard something. Logic dictates that if they make the playoffs that they made progress this season so I'm not exactly sure what grounds for not renewing him would be.

The acquisitions of Michael Stone and Bartkowski for a total of a 3rd round pick to help stabilize the defense core and in turn the entire team should be enough to get him an extension. It's obvious he makes prudent decisions and works tirelessly to be in on every potential deal which is a trait that I'd take for my GM anyday. The higher ups better have a contract in place for him to sign because if they're thinking of letting him go, there may be a major uproar.

I don't think he's going anywhere. Burke hired him and I don't think he's done Burke any wrong, unless Treliving has really pissed off Flames owners or other brass. When he was hired Burke said everyone around the league had nothing but good things to say about him.

If Burke leaves then perhaps Treliving may go due to change at the top.

Once a few contracts come off the books he'll have some more more freedom to tinker with the team. I don't think there has been one big questionable move he's made that has really turned out horrible. Firing Hartley and then hiring Gulutzen had the potential to be a big mistake but so far it's looking like a good decision. No one has jumped at hiring Hartley so that lends credence to the move as well.

There's almost no chance he's gone. He'll sign at the end of the year. He's an excellent, thoughtful, hard working GM.

There is a rumour Burke may be chasing a job with the US national program.

In that case, I can see Treliving saying 'see ya' and using his time with the Flames as an audition tape with a different/better franchise.

Or he takes Burkes position and someone else becomes GM?

One thing is for sure. Brad has kind of written his own ticket as far as his next contract goes. I can't think of a team that wouldn't jump at a chance of getting him in their organization.

Brad's in a good position to dictate costs and term on his next deal.

I could see Brad moving up the food chain with the Flames if Burke leaves. I haven't heard much about Conroy but I'm sure he wants to be a GM one day, and I think the Flames would want to keep him around.
