While most have remained tight-lipped about the proposal, Ward 5 Coun. Ray Jones hinted Monday that CalgaryNEXT would be a single, massive facility according to the plan he saw several months ago.
“It would all be combined together, all three,” said Jones, a well-known Stamps fan. “I think it’s all just one giant building from what I understand of the plans.”
He cautioned the plan could have changed over the ensuing months and he was anxious to see the proposal when it’s presented to season ticket holders at an invite-only event Tuesday morning on the Stampede grounds.
“It’s a hell of proposal that they’re putting together,” Jones said, adding the Flames are “putting up the majority of the money.”

One single building is key to achieving the efficiency the Flames are likely to be looking for here - centralized kitchens, security functions, usher and concessions staff, ticketing, etc etc etc...
Split those into 3 separate locations - and your operating costs going into the future are significantly higher

The only thing about one building is that it would have to be a really big building. Is there enough land space to fit such a large beast on that plot?
If it's one mega-complex building, I wonder if the naming rights will account for the complex itself, or the arena portion and the field portion will be different.

I made these years ago before this was even rumoured as the location...
The smaller grey blob is the outline of the Coyotes' arena in Glendale and the bigger grey blob is the outline of (IIRC) the football stadium at UConn in the States. I chose that stadium because it has a capacity around 40,000 and with the way it's laid out, the upper deck doesn't hang over the upper deck at all (like McMahon), so it's quite a wide stadium. They could likely build a similar-capacity building with a smaller footprint if they wanted.
If they were to re-align westbound Bow Trail to run parallel to eastbound, they'd have all the space in the world. Even without re-aligning Bow Trail, they could fit everything where GSL and Greyhound are without touching the Renfrew Chrysler land, but there would be less room for anything other than the arena and stadium.

Welcome to WestJet Place. Are you here to see the Flames at Sport Chek Arena? The Stampeders at Mark's Stadium? Or, just to work out at the Shaw Fieldhouse?
